Teenage boys.....hmmmm....other than a baseball bat and withholding food...got any other good ways of torturing? Grrrrr.....they made me so angry yesterday in Wenatchee and their behavior. By the end of the day I had had it. Skipped a couple stores and just came on home. Wish I lived on a bigger "farm" so they could muck stalls or dig fence post holes...like I had to as a kid. I also had to pull barnaby thistle and move rocks. Oh, I was angry.

Chickens are doing really well. Everyone has gone through their Corid treatment and all look good. Now any time someone is starting to look like they are going to take a nap, I get nerveous that something may be wrong. I check them out later and all are fine. Treatment ended today, so I can start using the eggs again.

I have not been eating them because of the Corid treatment.

Hope everyones damage is minor, or at least fixable... I still need to go do a walkabout of my property, and my mothers. And I also have to go assess any damage out at the barn... But from a cursory glance around, we had no damage worth talking about.

We did not feel a thing, and I am super sensitive to seismic movements.
Gary and I have both spent alot of years in the BA and NorCal...but neither of us felt it here in Raymond and as far as the news has said, no one else out here felt it either...the jolt went North towards Olympia I guess, not west.
What did LaSombra say about it right under her house ?????

Sorry, I was so busy yesterday with work, I never got on here. I didn't feel ANYTHING! Sounds crazy, being that my house sits directly on top of the epicenter, literally. I mean, within a mile, if not less. I was awake, and up and around... didn't feel anything. My husband didn't either. He was in bed. The dog didn't notice... the chickens either. weird! Mom says that sometimes, you don't feel anything if you're exactly on top of the epicenter... is that true? Anyone know? My next-door-neighbor said she only felt a slight bump like a bird hit the window and that's what she thought it was since there was a flock of birds that flew up at the same time. She's just a little bit further away from the epicenter than what I supposedly am.

Hi guys ! I have internet again for a moment, it keeps disapearing...yes we got a generator and it works but the several minutes to get up, dressed and out to start it and plug in an extension cord in a monsoon raining buckets and wind to blow you down...we did not get any wind in the first storm, this one is kicking our fannies.
I am too old to go running around in a wet nightie!!! (TMI there !)

Incubator got cold again a 10-15 minute thing which should not hurt anything as it is just like candling...those babies on pip may not feel very good on a temp spiralling down, anf the born fuzzy butts are fine.
I am exhausted, and everything is wet, all coats, all rain gear, all throw rugs, dogs chickens, rivers running through pens...and I have no idea if the internet will fade out again, it did off and on all day today...glad we live on this little hill about 20 feet above sea level !!!

so, hopefully the babies pip and make it, and the ones hatched are a pullet and a cockeral Java

and the rest hatched are my Cuckoo Marans...

Watch out, this next storm is supposed to be worse and apparently power poles, etc are already weakened...I cannot believe the rampage this 2nd storm has done to E WA...and I see LaSombra is OK...funny how she must live on rock...and did not feel a thing.
And so thankful to Cheryl for reporting to you all about what is going on...Hope you are all OK< I am signing off before my signal is lost again...

It is absolutely horrendous here !!!!

All my birds have stayed in their coops all day...blowing and raining HARDer than any storm I have seen here.

Chickielady Glad to hear all is ok down there. IMO i don't think 10-15 minutes is too bad. Keep in mind that a hen leaves the nest some too.
No the E center was not under me but it sure felt like it.

I can't remember now if they hatched on time or were late (note to self: make note next time!) but they did all hatch.

So if this happens to any of y'all, I wouldn't toss the eggs right away. Give them some time and see what happens. Also, you might want to try throwing a sleeping bag or some other kind of insulation over your incubator if the power goes out. I didn't think of that until afterwards either.

I lost power Monday and didn't get it back until late last night. Thankfully I had no eggs in the 'bator yet.

I'm not quite sure how putting a sleeping bag or some other insulation over an incubator is going to start a fire but I suppose if one had a homemade type or something it's possible. I have a GQF Sportsman so I don't see how that's possible. If anything it might cause some problems with the amount of humidity or such but again I think that would be negligible.

Nonetheless, I doubt if any sane person in their right mind would chance burning their house down just to save a few eggs/chicks.

Just MHO.
