Hi there! I am from Oak Harbor and new to the whole experience. I am interested in laying hens and was wondering what breeds are best for this area & climate? Are there any places close to get the chicks?

Type of chicken? most do well here since we are in mild weather area supposedly. Make a list of what you want... high egg production, colored eggs, meat, fast growing, cold hardy, friendly, etc etc..
Try this tool on BYC https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/breed-search.php

Once
you figure out what you like, you can most likely get live chicks by talking with folks here. Several of us sell hatching eggs, chicks, pullets and sometimes even layers.

Hope this helps!

There are many ameraucana breeders here. just be aware that a lot of places try to pass off "easter eggers" as ameraucanas so please ask here when your ready for birdies!

*easter eggers or EE = mixed breed that lays colored eggs

btw I'm not knocking the EE's I have 2 myself.

Doesn't that sense of power feel wonderful. Just being able to rattle the Rustler makes it worth it.
