I think I have same problem.. I dropped in boiling water then pulled out and tried to peel the outer skin and failed...
the feet went to dog food pot.

Why do they have to be skinned if useing for stock? Wouldn't you just strain them out when the stock is finished cooking? I don't think I would ever do it but if I did I would probably just scrub them real good and cut off the nails. Seems the rest would just turn to mush when it's cooked to death.

We used to clean the feet all the time when I younger, they were great fried my sister loved them
If I remember right they had to be scalded in the water alot longer then the bird,
Then we peeled the skin off of them and cut the toes off,
An easier way is go to the grocery store

Welcome to the Chicken World,
Im in Oak Harbor also just south, there are a lot of chickens and chicken people in the Oak Harbor area
And there is always someone that will help you get started

RE: Chicken feet. I went to school with a girl whose mother put chicken feet in her soup. The girl would come to school with a thermos and it had the chicken feet in it. We all thought it weird at the time. She never ate them, at least there at school.

Never have made stock with chicken feet, never thought about it. I would like to read what the final decision is on whether or not they are to be peeled or not peeled. I don't think our store sells them, hmmmm, wonder where I could get some. My hens may miss theirs if I took them.

But really, I would not mind trying adding them to my stock that I make. We don't butcher as DH can't stomach it. They are all his pets.

SNOW IN SPOKANE!!!!!

Okay, the Nyquil has not wore off yet, not feeling well. Cold. ick.

CR: They want to 'do' the feet cuz they heard it was good, and after they try it and find out it is not worth the trouble they will go back to the quail.

Just FYI, I lost power back in May for either 2-3 days (can't remember for sure which now) when the big windstorm blew thru here. I had eggs hatching at the time, week old chicks in a brooder in the house, and two week old chicks out in the pumphouse. I had also just put in more eggs two days prior to the power going out. Those eggs sat in the incubator right around 55 degrees or so for at least two full days and they all ultimately hatched. I can't remember now if they hatched on time or were late (note to self: make note next time!) but they did all hatch.

So if this happens to any of y'all, I wouldn't toss the eggs right away. Give them some time and see what happens. Also, you might want to try throwing a sleeping bag or some other kind of insulation over your incubator if the power goes out. I didn't think of that until afterwards either.

I lost power Monday and didn't get it back until late last night. Thankfully I had no eggs in the 'bator yet.

God Bless,

Thankyou...I am hanging on to them, there is a few due today, and given they got cool (87 degrees or so twice) I will give them several extra days.

Good idea but my concern would if the power came back while I was sleeping or gone. Seems like a good way to start a fire. I would rather chance losing some eggs / chicks than risk burning my house down. Just my opinion.

All my chicken books say no to a sleeping bag/blanket as when power goes off, fans stop, and eggs still need air.
It can be stifling for the embryos should there be alot of them.
The books I have actually suggest you open portholes until power resumes.
