Scott actually has feed for most farm critters. It is locally produced and they grow most of it themselves. AND THEN THERE IS THE PRICE !!! My chickens love the feed, less waste and better production. I think if you could get in on the shipments coming that way you would like it.
I am REALLY starting to wonder if I made a big mistake letting my little secret out. lol

Darn I wish my story was as fun. Now I just need to get Miss Zoe to get chickens and hay now. Then I could help myself/borrow some of hers. DH made a cover for the hose bib, with a plywood box and straw. It is easy enough for me to use. That is all that counts in my world.

I think the nearest feed miller/grower out here is, oooh, 3-4 hours away, perhaps even farther.

I'm hoping, though, to get a successful crop of Quinoa, Amaranth, Teff, and heirloom Corn grown next spring.

Uh oh! I hope I didn't screw up!!!

We had 2 birthday parties to go to today and I was on BYC earlier and did not get my hose & pipes covered! I was hoping to clean the duck house/run tomorrow. Sundays are my cleaning days!

Should I cover the gravel in the run with straw for the winter? I'm afraid the wet gravel will freeze and be slippery and their little webbed feet will stick to the icy rock!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

I am so stressed out now! I do not like this cold weather!!!!!!

The feed is locally grown and processed fresh. It is grown semi organically meaning nothing is used unless it is truly needed and never after the grains are started growing.
Check it out! http://patriotfarmandbison.com/
With
a large order it is delivered up to the north Seattle area (my place) for people to pickup. Which makes it available to those who can not spend all day to visit Winlock and get feed direct from the farm.
The prices are great and the delivery charge that we worked out is very reasonable.

We love their feed too. My DH drives from Portland to Seattle often and he'll schedule his drive home to allow for a feed pick up. In a Prius! When we get low I always ask if he has business to attend to in Seattle and I suggest he needs to head up there. The ladies love their food. I also cater to them by providing sprouted wheat berries. I always have some going in the window. We buy the gigantic sack of wheat berries from Bob's Red Mill. I was thinking of growing mealworms too. I hear it is easy. Someone here in Portland had them on CL.

Good morning right back at cha!

I won't care if it snows but not looking forward to teaching agility class this morning in an open air arena @ 8 AM.....

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......now where did I put my longjohns???

It was in the mid-teens here last night and it's now 21 outside...BRRRR! Of course, I had to go outside several times last night to check on the newest arrivals...good thing I did because my LS roo (extra) had been booted out of the coop by the dominant roo and he was FREEZING on the little ramp...I picked him up and brought him into the main part of the coop...he has the beginnings of frostbite on one toe but I think I caught it in time...

Oh and last night Cash started going nuts--in the house (we brought him in because it was supposed to be so cold and he's getting older. Anyway, it was LOUD, rapid barks....then Hank (who was in the house, too) started in, too. I let him out and then grabbed the spotlight. This was about 12:30 last night...anyway, I look out and right next to my goose pen is a coyote! I yell at DH to get the gun and try to get Hank quieted down....it's in a stand-off with Cash...unfortunately for us, the coyote took off when we opened the door. After spot-lighting it and watching it go behind the horse shelter, we figured out why Cash didn't chase it--there were FOUR more standing behind there!

Due to having our four horses in the pen for the winter and not wanting to accidentally shoot one of them--we didn't take a shot but they took off once I went out and checked my pens and did a head-count...everything was fine...my goose/duck pens are "hog panels" http://www.alamofence.com/hog3.jpg with "horse fence" stretched over the top. No damage to anything....I think it was just testing out the area and drawn in because it's been cold lately...

Makes me nervous to leave for four days....but Cash is staying here...
