No...we neutered him in 2006.

I got him from someone in Moses Lake/Ephrata area (Little Nickel ad) for $75. That was in 2005. The BEST $75 we ever spent...since having him, we have not lost a single chicken/duck/goose to any predator (except for a mishap when I took him to town with me ONCE) and a neighbor's pointer came over and killed all of my birds...but that was my fault for leaving them unattended and out while I was gone.

I've been searching the Little Nickel and CL for the last 5 years for relatives of his, the same people we got him from, etc...and no luck. I would love to buy another one like him. I mean...here is the night & the next day after we bought him...he was ssooo stinkin' cute!

As far as the Cayugas, I sold my breeding trio to a lady in Mattawa a few years back and I see her on CL selling ducklings and eggs sometimes. I would keep a pair back and hatch out ducklings for eating each year. They forage very well, are calm, gorgeous, lay dark greenish/grey eggs and they are very hardy. I think I can find her email if you'd like?

It was an Indian Runner duck, and SOOOO good.

We're planning on breeding Cayugas next year. I'm sooo craving black eggs and duck meat.

Reminds me of a day we were late to gather eggs while living in Tonasket, and by the time we did they were all fozen...so we cracked and picked the shells off like they were hard boiled and set them in a frying pan with warm butter and cooked them slowly...like trying to fry big marbles, but it worked just fine

I know! BRRRRR!!! How are your Orps doing? Do have any of the originals still or are they are all descendants of the originals?

I have two hens (from you), some stock from Korfus Kluckers, and I have two chicks from Bama Chicken eggs in the brooder. That should give me some nice diversity to play around with for a few generations at least. I am actually very excited, and I think they will be producing some great birds out of that coop!

Have you ever tried Muscovy? They are supposedly the best meat duck (as far as taste)...I LOVE mine (never eaten one though) but they lay like CRAZY, brood anything--GREAT for hatching goose & duck eggs!), super hardy, friendly, easy going, forage well (eat mice)...

Here are some pics of my Cayugas that I sold...
