hmm... all i know about artifical sweetners is that splenda is good, in tea, but in nothing else.
diabetics should avoid sweeteners that contain sorbital i learned that in organic chem this spring. eating that stuff while diabetic causes you to go blind. small doses are using in sweetners, but large doses of this are used in laxatives.... the way that compound works is that it draws in solute (moisture). so if one is diabetic, it tends to concentrate in your eyes and that draws fluid in the eyes causing cataracts= blind. that is the general easy english way that works. i am not sure which sweeteners contain it, i just know from O chem that many do. sacchrides are not a bad sweetener for you because many foods we eat naturally are saccarides and contain saccrin. again, learned this in lab experiments in O chem. there are mono sacchrides and polysacchrides too....
-sigh- i wish i could go to the chicken potluck.... (stuck in WSU). btw, the drive back to here was pure foggy! still foggy! apparently there is a fog warning advisory out till noon tomorrow, or was it tuesday?..... hmmm.
oh on another note, i read where some people use Sevin to control lice on their chickens. i checked some and confirmed mine are quite infested, it is not efficient to dust all 85+ and have to try and do it again in 2 weeks. and even though i am studying Ag..... i am not aware about this application towards chickens for lice. but it if can kill BOTH lice and eggs, mine would be happier chickens..... so someone let me know so i could give dad the ok to nuke the chicken coops...... and since they are not laying a whole bunch right now it getting in the eggs is not a major worry....
oh and does someone make chicken saddles? one of my small RIR has been visited by roosters too much and is becoming featherless, already is on the thighs, and mostly its back..... i cannot separate her because my other locations are not heated or accessible in the winter...... if i could buy a few saddles from someone i would be most grateful (and so would many of my popular hens)
