Welcome! I know many people who love North Bend, a good mash between rural & urban I guess.
And way to go Imp, didn't know you were marketing the WA group.

We're a pretty friendly group who doesn't usually bite.... too hard

Well I obviously had to help Ogress out. We are distantly related through the gnomes.

I do a lot of welcoming and everyone from Washington gets steered here.

And Rainwolf, I worried about that goat last night. Wish I could have a goat here. Course I'd try to make it a house pet.

Not sure how that'd work put.

Sure thing! I should expect them tomorrow evening or the next morning. I've got a completely separate coop complete with nesting boxes, brooder space, a temporary run, and everything else for them. (But actually, once they're used to our place, they'll be free ranging the yard. And I mean FREE ranging, not fenced in a pasture. . . These Shamos will be our yard ornaments/pets/guardians.

)

After the Shamos, next up is Partridge or Buff Laced Brahmas.

Can't wait to have such enormous, fluzzy, beautifully patterned birds!

Far Out ! The Shamos are so interesting !
You could just charge admission for people to come look at the birds !

Well the enormous fluffy birds ( Brahmas ) eat like cattle, grow so slow you want to tear your hair out, and lay little eggs.
They are not near as beautifully patterned or colored as Cochins, nor as big as LF Cochins.
They are also a mess, what with our rain and mud they always have muddy feet and you may resort to cutting their feet feathers off in the winter.
They are also bossy (they can pick on and intimidate smaller birds until they are terrified or dead) and broody, which is why I have them, they are great brooders.
And now Washington, it is time to go get ready for the next storm which is to hit tonight at 10 PM for us coasties...and 30-40 MPH winds and gusts up to 70...oh boy!
At least it will not snow, but the rain and wind will more than likely take out trees and power lines.
Did everyone get theri power back on in Kitsap yet ????
I have the generator out and ready...extension cords for the incubator and brooder...what a FALL !
Makes me wonder about winter ???

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I love North Bend. Some of my Seattle friends gave me a hard time for commuting down I-90, so I quit my job. Probably not the smartest thing to do while building a house. Now I'm tinkering with a few different hobbies for some pocket change and having a fun time with it.

BYC is addicting. I'm spending far more time on here than I ever did on FB! Probably because the posts are a lot more interesting. Most of my posts and pictures there have to do with my chickens anyways. I never did get Farmville! Why have a virtual farm when you can start your own backyard flock?

Thanks for steering me here Imp!

Chickielady I have to butt in and say, you're talking about hatchery Brahmas. . And your Brahmas.

Brahmas actually come in Silver Laced, Buff Laced, Blue Laced Red, Gold Laced, and gold and silver Partridge just like Cochins do. Also, they are bigger than Cochins - true to type Brahmas should weigh 9 lbs for hens, 12 lbs for cocks. Cochins are only fluffier because of their allowance for more feathering on the shanks. Cochin hens should only be 8 lbs, cocks at 11 lbs. They're also very quiet, docile, and friendly. Oh, and naturally Brahmas are not broody. I think yours is like my Silver Laced Polish - One in a million.

I believe everyone has power now. But this next incoming storm is gonna knock it out again. The ground is saturated, so root systems are weakened, add high winds to that... And well my peaceful little spot is gonna be a huge mess of downed trees... And that is exactly why most true locals carry an axe and a chain saw with them. You just never know when your gonna need to clear a road...

I do believe that this will be a much tougher winter than anything we have had in the past 10-15 years. I mean think about it a second... When was the last time ALL of western washington / most of washington, seen snow in NOVEMBER??? My birthday is November 21st, I'm 29, and I can not for the life of me remember snow ever falling on my birthday. Also, think back to 1996... That was the last hard lanina year we had. And this year is suposedly going to be twice as bad as '96. On Bainbridge Island in December of 1996, at seal level we had 2' of snow.

Welcome Ogress!!!

Just a head's up for anyone looking for birds for sale. I've just listed some auctions for two LF Lavender Orpington Cockerels, one LF Lavender Ameraucana Cockerel and two Crele Old English Game Bantam Cockerels. The last two would be perfect for kids for 4-H. My 11 yr old DD has been using them for the last year or two.

I am planning to go down to the Winter Brisk show on Saturday for a look see. I am happy to meet anyone along the I-5 corridor between Bothell and Chehalis if anyone is interested! I'm not showing, so I can't technically sell the birds AT the show. Please PM me if you are interested!

Also, if anyone on that route has excellent type LF Black Ameraucana Pullets/Hens or excellent type blue or black Bantam Cochin hens/Pullets, I'm looking for two of each. So let me know if you have some!!!
