Not wanting any more cold weather!

It's "warm" here today--mid-20s. I just let out my Sussex, Orloffs and Sumatras...funny, last night when I got home it was 22 degrees outside and 50 in the coop!

I was worried because there were the beginnings of frost on the insides of the windows and the humidity IN the coop was approaching 60%. My MIL tries her best but sometimes I can't figure out what she's thinking...pop bottle waterers froze solid while I was gone so instead of bringing them in and putting them in the bucket like I'd asked, she brought over 15 cottage cheese & sour cream containers and filled those with water? Not only did they all tip over, wetting the shavings, my chickens and freezing some of the coop doors shut but I think it raised the humidity in there a lot.

Forgot to ask what kinds of Cochin do you have ?
I love them and have so many people interested as they are so darn CUTE...people LOVE cute and I have run into alot of people lately who like the idea of smaller birds for their backyard flock, I guess if they are smaller you get to have more of them ?

My sister for example, wants a bantam cochin of every assorted color !

My sister usually gets what she wants, so we shall see how that developes !
She wants to retire and move to Redmond OR cus she says it is so cold and wet here...I have tried to tell her she will freeze her patooty off in Redmond OR as it is HIGH desert, and the wind rarely stops blowing...all the way from there to Bend to Ione to Pendleton, cold and windy. But she will not listen...Oh well !

Seriously think about trying to get 1 bantam cochin of every color !

I have a project going. It's the Mille Fleur color but to improve type I also have BBS mottled and just hatched (my miracle babies, eggs 10 days in transit) MFC with some split to Buff Columbian but need to wait till they feather out to see what I actually have.

Do you have Blue Copper hens too? if so, how is their egg color? I so want to put some Blue Copper in my BCM pen and slowly weed out the BCM. Like the Blues so much more.

They are very dark brown...I have a photo someplace of the ones in the incubator...

the 2 dark ones are Blue Coppers, BBS Marans, just started laying about 2 weeks ago and I sent a doz eggs to Rainwolf and they are pipping even as we write !
The 3 eggs on the right are Cuckoo Marans, and the fart egg is my Olive Eggers, all 7 of those girls are fart egging now..

I think the 2 white wyandotte biddies are in these pictures too...
These BBS Marans are Madelynne belle Birds from Gig Harbor...awesome birds.
Her eggs were Jumbo and very very dark !

Hard to say ! This morning the weather guy said gusts to 70 out here on the coast, and that scared me.
Yes that would maybe blow your coop over, but not carry it away I do not think...
But I notice the weather report has toned down to 20-30 MPH winds, let's hope so !

Oooh Millies ?
Those are so cute and Buff Columbian is so awesome too !
Do post photos !
I saw a guy on the Cochin thread had a basic black LF cochin, with columbian type neck hackle, really awesome but have no idea what it was, I gotta find out....they were so gorgeous !

This is us too! So far we have 3 roosters, 1 black, 1 blue and 1 lavender (self-blue). Then we have 6 pullets/hens. One partridge (yes Pitter Patter Palace, I still have her!), 1 silver-laced, one ugly little white girl, one tiny blue girl, 1 black mottled and a new baby black pullet who is filling in nicely! One of my DD's wants to breed the BBS, and my youngest DD and I want to breed the lavender and mottled, but we have had issues this year hatching out any females!

Can't wait until this newest little black baby girl gets old enough to lay. I'm sorely tempted to get more eggs from the breeder who we got her from. Don't know if I can wait that long!!!!

Ya, we have plans on anchoring it but havn't got around to it yet. Then my hubby wanted to put the roof on and I was hesitant with the weather thats coming. Well, if it blew over that would suck. It would kindof mess up the roof. Dang. Gonna have to go out there and do something.
