Do you have Blue Copper hens too? if so, how is their egg color? I so want to put some Blue Copper in my BCM pen and slowly weed out the BCM. Like the Blues so much more.

They are very dark brown...I have a photo someplace of the ones in the incubator...

This is us too! So far we have 3 roosters, 1 black, 1 blue and 1 lavender (self-blue). Then we have 6 pullets/hens. One partridge (yes Pitter Patter Palace, I still have her!), 1 silver-laced, one ugly little white girl, one tiny blue girl, 1 black mottled and a new baby black pullet who is filling in nicely! One of my DD's wants to breed the BBS, and my youngest DD and I want to breed the lavender and mottled, but we have had issues this year hatching out any females!

Can't wait until this newest little black baby girl gets old enough to lay. I'm sorely tempted to get more eggs from the breeder who we got her from. Don't know if I can wait that long!!!!

OK need photos of all the flavors of babies you have !!

The biddies are running with the Silver Cuckoos at the present, they were with the BC Marans a few weeks ago.

Hmm wonder what those chicks would look like. Would they wind up sex linked because of solid white hen, under barred roos??? Just curious... Those are good looking boys.

Hey Illa i got a chicken genetic problem for you

I have 13 illegitmate chicks that hatched at the beginning of the month. i do not know the parentage of any of them

one is black with black legs so it could be a giant cross....

the rest are all chipmunk striped and some chipmunk speckled. some have white faces some seem to have muffs, but its too early. all of them have yellow legs. and i couldn't notice any leg feathering, so if my Buff Brahma roo was a father any, for once he didn't throw leg feathering.

i have an ee roo and many others but the most prolific one has been the black jersey giant roo.

turken roo seems to not have any offspring, unless naked neck is not dominant. i though leg feathering was dominant, that is why i rule out most of my brahmas..... but the combs on the chicks are not developed any to tell what they will be......

now here is the weird part

13 chicks right, and only 1 black?

i have one chick that is turning blue. no joke. meaning 13 chicks and 2 are not chipmunk looking but are now solid colored

could it be possible to somehow have my blue Andalusians crossed with something else, produce a chipmunk chick that turns blue????? i found some little feathers "reminant downyness" attached to the blue ones and those were not blue down. but this is so weird, i know many will grow and have patterns later, but i never heard of a chick hatching one color and turning blue.... i remember the odds of a blue chick from pure breeding is hard, and this one is from a mutt. i cannot remember its leg color off the top of my head.....

they are all getting into their first set of feathers now..... will be months before the adult feathers grow in.......

They are all about a month old now, so ~ 4 week old. since i do not know the hatch date.

Well I think our girlz are not very proud of me right now. I needed to clean the wood stove so I put the ash in the coop. I figured it may also help warm them up a bit. Well some ran over jumped in and jumped right back out looking at me like WTH !!!! Apparently chickens don't like a nice hot (dust) bath.

Well OK I didn't really dump hot ashes in the coop but I bet after ya got over thinking how S T U PID ya were laughing.

I asked Illia that question a few weeks ago and and she said it all depended on if the white in the w's was dominate, and if so maybe some of the chicks would be barred but most not.
To increase a flock of barred birds, you would have to breed the cuckoos baies back to the father (a cuckoo roo) and cull the solids.
But if you keep doing that you will end up working for years to breed the W out of the Cuckoo blood, so whay not just Cuckoos ?

Easter Egger cockerels these days (if you bought him from a hatchery of feedstore within the last 3 years) have been introducing blue into their stock, and a lot of people don't notice what is blue and what isn't. But, it is very possible for one to go blue. If you have a chipmunk chick and it turns blue - VERY possible. I myself have blue duckwing Araucanas who look the same as normal duckwing Araucanas as chicks.

Naked neck is a dominant gene. Feather shanking is dominant, HOWEVER, I've never gotten any from my own hatchery Brahmas, so it could possibly be from your Brahma roo, but doubtful. . .

Still, I'd love to see photos. But in the mean time, yes, it is very possible only one chick turned out black. As for your chipmunk ones, those are definite EE crosses . . No other breed you mentioned can pass on or has the chipmunk pattern as a chick. (chipmunk means it is a duckwing, partridge, or BBR type color)

Also, the combs you should be able to tell type by birth. A single combed chick will have a flopped over little sawtooth edging. A pea combed chick will have a rounded, but smooth comb or comb with tiny but perfect little bubbly bumps on it. A rosecombed chick will have a perfectly smooth, broad comb.

If you provide pics, that would help. So far it sounds like your Easter Egger is doing most of the work, but you've yet to mention your hens.

LOL that would make my day! And make my DH so not happy! And OH what a beautiful grab bag that would wind up being. lol Oh well, eventually he will realise that my chickens aren't going anywhere. lol And that they are ALOT cheaper than bringing home another horse. lol I would rather keep a large flock of chickens, over 3 horses. lol Don't get me wrong, I love horses, but its all a numbers game. lol 1 horse would equal what? 150-200 chickens.
