Not sure of your location .... but this is a fantastic move. I think people are moving more and more to buying local and wanting locally grown produce. i know we have some really nice produce here in the Okanogan County. I love to buy (what I don't grown on my own) produce at the farmer's market or from one of the local stands. I know the produce is fresh and I love being able to keep my dollar as close to home as possible. I am sorry that your clientel (sp?) dropped because of the economy, but it sounds like you a survivor and I bet you will begin to "hone" in on those farming skills. Best of luck to you.

I eat eggs for free.

Ok really we are way down here in the Styx and we sell our eggs for $2.00 per dozen. Now I know there are alot of people selling for more but I am not in that market area. Also I sell eggs to help cover the cost of keeping the chickens. We use a lot of eggs and sell the rest. In the last 6 months I think I have had to add $4.00 to the egg money to pay for feed.
Also if you are not set on total organic feed but want a good clean feed. Talk to Rainwolf about the feed that my local (no longer) top secret supplier has started delivering up that way. His top of the line 20% is $11.50 per 50#.

Speaking of Scott I just talked to him tonight and he MIGHT be at the show in Chehalis this weekend. He said it depends on if they have space and what the cost would be. He is suppoda let me know and I will post for anybody that is interested.

yep, same here. $2/doz I don't think anyone would buy them for more than that here... maybe, but I doubt it.

Well unofficial official weather report from out here in the Styx. We currently have 41*, light breeze and ocasinal sprinkles.

That wind sure is picking up! I thought we were going to blow away standing at the bus stop with the big umbrella. Then checked on the birds, they are making a racket hoping for snacks. I adjusted the tarps to block the wind. Still no eggs.

My garden grew lousy this year - cold, soggy summer here. Got peas, beans and basil. In the spring, all the spinach and radishes bolted before they got big enough to eat. Tomatoes all rotted on the vine before they turned red. I couldn't even grow zucchini, and I only got about 100 potatoes. I tried growing them in garbage cans this year. Started off nicely in the spring, but then did not seem to grow any more after June. The vines never even flowered.

My garden did the same thing.I was really disappointed in the tomatoes.I couldn't grow zucchini this year either. It was a horrible year for gardening for me, I have high hopes for next year though.

My feathered ladies have started laying again, Big beautiful brown eggs!!!!!

I just got rain here, no wind.(which is nice because I raked leaves into piles yesterday) Got to borrow a neighbor or 2's yard waste bin, today. Filled my waste bin, cleaned out the run and filled it with leaves and still have enough for 1-2 more. Anyone need any leaves?
Yeah Ogress it was a lousy growing season this year. I don't do many vegetables, but even my fruit trees/bushes/canes had barely any fruit on it.
On the bright side I've got 1 more meal of green tomatoes, maybe tonight.

What? You were unable to grow zucchinis? I didn't know that this was possible. These things grow like weeds. I am of course teasing.....I understand we all are in different climate type areas. It is just that I have never known zucchinis to not grow. Around here there is "drop zucchini" on your neighbor's porch day. Course they take their zucchinis and do the same thing.

Why is it that we know that 1 plant will be sufficient for us for zucchini, but we plant 5 plants?....just to make sure. Now that I have chickens...the chickens can have the extras.
