Unless you get IDEAL's line, they are all single combed RIR?

Whaat?

Ideal does not carry Rhode Island Whites (they're a crossbred lie of a mutt) and, umm, that comment just didn't make sense.

Well, they call them Rhode Island Whites: https://secuservices.com/ideal/newideal/selectproduct.aspx?qty=1&ID=RIWS&Product=535

And
the photo shows a single comb?

So I emailed them the other day and asked if their RIR were single or RC?

This is the response I got:

Heather –

Our Rhode Island Whites are single comb. Thank you.

She (Cloverleaf) was asking about cushion & single combs (she didn't know about the RC on RIR whites, maybe???) and after you told her--I was being sarcastic with my reply that Ideal Poultry's RIR whites have SINGLE combs.

Chickielady, I wasn't doubting anything of Heather's, just asking what she was talking about. She's been in the biz longer than I have, no doubt.

Rhode Island Whites should not and do not come in "single comb variety" - It is a bigger "no-no" than single combed Wyandottes. In fact, ask breeders of RIW's and RIR's and they'll straight up tell you that hatcheries likely either sell White Rock hybrids or just something else, certainly not RIW's though.

Ah I see now.

Beautiful photo. I no longer have horses, used to have a buckskin mare whose sire was Diamond (someone) I just don't remember...it was so long ago. She was a beautiful AQHA. I got her as a 3 yo, but I was too interested in boys. She would have made a great barrel horse. She had the bloodlines for it. Her name was Jewel.

With names like that I bet she had Diamond Jim in her bloodlines. Diamond Jims sire was Painted Jewel. These are APHA so not sue how it factored in to your AQHA since AQHA didn't allow overo paints in the registry until a few years ago. Maybe just a coincidence.

I kept thinking Diamond Jim, but just was not sure. It WAS Diamond Jim. She was a beautiful buckskin. Line down the back and over the shoulders. I am sorry for not using the right terminology...it has been so long...almost 30 years since I have had a horse. I saw the name Painted Jewel and we decided to call her Jewel. When we got her she was a big built (beautiful butt AQHA) 3 yo that had never been touched....not even halter broke. I did so little with her...too interested in boys. Got her halter broke and started her, but then sold her. Wish I hadn't.

Hi all, just wanted to apologize for all my quotes and late posts. Our power went out last night (same here, lightning , thunder and wind, no sattelite)and then had to work today so just getting to read and respond. ok, go ahead with the RIW subject

Tomorrow, I will go out and grab MOT and the girls one at a time, and have DH take pics...they are large, they are growing slowly, and then we can take a few photos of the white wyandottes for you to see...
