Ive heard stories about the quake in '65. The Highschool on Bainbridge was burnt down during the quake. The school left one original wall as a reminder of what could happen.

That earth quake was something. I was in the library shapening a pencil then the ground started to shake. I saw light poles from across the street come to the middle of the street and touch the lines on the other side of the street. Lasted a few seconds. My dad was driving down the road to Centralia and got out of his car he thought he had a flat tire. Its about 48 out side all the chickens and ducks got fresh water and a cross of 20 percent game bird pellets and craked corn. Going to get down to about 24 tonight. With the humidity and cold water its like 0 degrees in Washington.

Cant wait till feb then turn the lights on and start the incubator again. bob

I am finishing my last hatch, pips due on New Years Day.
Lights are on during daylight only, like 7 AM to 5 PM, cuz it can be dark inside the coops, under a bunch of fir trees.
Not much light now, days are so short it is almost not worth getting out of your jammies, huh ?
It will be sooo nice to be in warm sunshine, and have dry runs again !

There is someone here on BYC that takes those tins (Christmas cookie tins?) and inserts a small light inside to put under the waterer to keep from freezing. I'll try and find the post

RedRoosterFarms...I do not know if you can do this trick, my Father in law did it in NorCal with big pheasant pens, he was so proud when he invented this contraption:
He got a section of metal rain gutter, and attached (somehow?) heat tape to the underside, it is way low voltage...and it ran from one pen through to the next, and you can attach sections of rain gutter and put up on cinder blocks to keep the birds from rotovating crap all up in the gutters.
((Pheasants do not rotovate much))
Then added a drip line attached to a toilet float..so when water got low it squirted more in.
He wrapped the heat tape all around.
That was that.
Do not know if it will work with chickens, other than chickens will no doubt get poop all in the water and it would be a challenge to clean...
What I do now is a fantastic idea:
I got square water/feed boxes at the bird show that affix to the wire cages, DH then drilled 2 holes on top (a plastic coffee can will work) and 2 screws in the wall on the inside of the coops...hang the wells, add water.
Mine are hanging inside each coop about 8" off the floor so they can barely drink.
They cannot kick poop in.
Any square thing will work, the plastic square coffee containers (blue ones, MJB ?) work excellent...
Easy to unhook them and dump out any dust, etc.
The deal is, it is cheap, and inside of the coop is not freezing.
Hope to help!
I can do photos tomorrow if you want to see...

Fantastic that an insurance company will pay for repairs like that to seems to me to be poor judgement (hmm) by the driver

You are sooo lucky !
What car insurance is it ?

No snow, some thunder, hardly much wind, some showers here and there, FINALLY got rid of two of our Sebastopols, and I also FINALLY got myself another Silver Laced Polish pullet!!

Silver Laced, Gold Laced, even hatchery/poor quality ones are hard to find, but right now I'm a little desparate, so someone really kind named Sherry (

) got me this sweet girl, who I'm still naming "Spangles." She's still in quarantine, but for a bird in a new life, she's pretty trusty and eats whatever you give her.

Now, continuing my hunt for Polish. . . .

If ANYONE has or knows someone else who has Silver or Gold Laced Polish. . . . Let me know!
