Hey all... I scored on CL today! I got up and fed and was having coffee around 6;30 this am and was reading BC when I decided to check CraigsList. Farm area. There was an ad that just went up for free chickens 30-40. I thought it was bogas but couldn't resist calling. A gal answered and I asked if she still had the chickens and if so, why for free?? Sad story but her husband loved the birds and they were his babies. He had lots. He passed away 2 weeks ago and the family was not able to care for them. I drove to Fife around 45 minutes away and they all came running up to be loved and petted. I was floored to see all he had. Purebreds of serama,RIR(most), Ameraucana,Jersey giants and a few Astralorps(sp) and some others that I had no clue. I think only 3 or 4 were a mix and they were so tame.(either that or starved?) The young RIR were around 4 months and looked to have cocci. I got them home and gave each one a pea size dab of wormer and sulmet in the water. I got 31 birds in total and most are 6 months and older and some even laid today. They are in the wood shed hiding from the hubby. They are there to get healthy for 30 days. The folks gave me feeders and waterers too. As soon as I put them in the pen they went crazy. I think they were starving. 5-1.5 gallon buckets of feed and 7 gallons of water in 1 hour. I have never seen a bird eat so fast. The poor things. I was so glad the folks were giving them up. Now the problem is... I just sold around 25 birds yesterday and today to make room for new breeding pens and breeds and now I do this.... On top of that,my hubby is laid up for a week after knee surgery and he honestly has no clue these birds are crapping all over our fire wood and no idea we even have them. My son and I snuck out at 7am and back at 9am and hubby was still medicated. Crummm, What to do??? Just wanted to share my story.

Latte is my baby she will sit on my shoulders and eat from my hands.
Mocha is a bit more skiddy but she will eat from my lap and hands just not as bold as Latte.

There is a black one and a another one a mix colored one. I have them under cover with the others but they are dry. Mine that I have are in the out building and are still laying. I cant wait to put them in with mine next month. You can only see the butt of the black one in the pix but not the other. She is hiding.
