In my mostly humble opinion, I think your choices are good. But it would be GREAT if you snuck a couple of Easter Eggers for some color, both in feathers and eggs, and personality. I, myself, (and me?) will always have some EEs or Ameraucanas.

Yep, I personally don't see how someone can live with just plain 'ol drab brown eggs.

Everyone has them. . .

Even if I was down to one or two hens, a colored layer like an Araucana, Ameraucana, or Easter Egger is on the must list. Next to that is a really dark laying Marans.

Personally I'd give up brown eggs before white eggs. . . Because at least I'll have pretty, neat, and unique chickens who lay the white eggs (my Tolbunt Polish, Silver Laced Polish, etc) and honestly, white eggs are becoming less and less common. They make a perfect and beautiful contrast.

What a beautiful sunny day! but too short. Was on a roll. Got a bunch of stuff done and was able to get some work done on my next coop but the days are so dang short I was inside by 5 pm. So frustrating. Ya, if I don't plan on going into town I sometimes don't bother getting out of my jammies. Put pants and boots on today but kept my jammie tops on!

Well, everything was going great today...and then DH went to town to get a hasp I asked him to get to put on the freezer which is sitting out in the open, with a tarp shed roof over it, and we have unsavory neighbors not too far away (not far enough for me) so I thought a hasp & lock just to keep honest folks honest...so EINSTEIN gets a hasp and set of locks and drills right into the face of my freezer and it blew up...he killed it !
So at 2:30 we had to hitch up the trailer and drive all the way to Aberdeen to Home Depot and I picked out a bigger freezer and I put it on a 12 mo no interest deal...crapola!
I am trying so hard to save money!!!!!

We just had a $3K dead well, DH calls it a $3K fence post...now I have to get a new freezer and it is sitting out in the weather....

It is all making me very depressed....I have customers coming over everyday and out of my usual 3-4 doz eggs a day I am getting 8 eggs a day at best (from the BBS Marans I am trying to sell!)
And customers keep coming over....then we stopped by the grocery here and saw that """free range brown eggs"" were $8.99 a dozen.
I am not kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who in their right mind is going to pay that ?
See, is it true that totally "organic" eggs cannot be stimulated from the birds under any circumstances,(including hormones or light) but are naturally LAID??????
Everyone go look at the cost of eggs in your town.
I am getting more and more customers every day !
This is a great time to get local customers, what with the egg prices as they are, the egg farms are practically driving their customers right down my driveway!

Good thing cuz I have to sell alot of eggs to pay for the new freezer....

Put up a sign!!!!

I open, clean (poop trays) feed and top off the water buckets in all my coops in my jammies and rubber gum boots and a sweatshirt.
and when done, I shower and put on real clothes, and no, I do not sleep in the jammies

Yeah I bet egg prices here too are getting insane (last I saw they were 5 a dozen for "cage free" crap) but my production is no where near enough to even give one dozen every other day out to customers. . . And I'm certainly not going to force my girls by giving them extra protein or a light.

I want to give them a break, and I want DARK eggs again this spring.

Although I really do want my Polish to start laying soon. . . . But that's for myself. I want some Tolbunt babies!!

It is sure awesome to sell so many different color eggs, although they all taste the same, my customers LOVE the assorted colors...with the OE eggs being the biggest attractant now...geeze you'd think they were gold or something...we have green, blue, pink, off white and brown and dark chocolate brown...and the Brahmas adorn theirs with spots, and the Wyandottes add speckles to their eggs too...my buyers love the colors and assortments !
