Here's an interesting read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tansy . I'm trying to think if I've seen it on my place and just ain't sure. I wonder if it could be a natural wormer for chickens? Hmm.

Btw, as for goats, I've found that goats somehow know what they should eat or not eat. I've got Foxglove and ferns and I'm sure other stuff here that they shouldn't eat and for whatever reason they just seem to know to stay away from that stuff.

God Bless,

goats too.. that, and the rhodies/azaleas are the badies around here for the goats...

I just pull it if I see it anywhere--along our communal driveway, were I walk with the goats (except that pasture unfortunately), our yard, the neighbors yard.... it is usually only consumed by accident by a normal healthy animal because it is mixed in with their normal forage stuff. Rhodies on the other hand--my goats willingly eat those. go figger.

Illia--I am sure you have you walked your pasture?? Maybe there is something 'hidden' in the grasses??? I am so sorry about your goatie AND your chicken.

Your heart must be so heavy right now.

OK, against my will, dear FiL has asked me to help him advertise his bird sale, parting out stuff from the pheasant farm....most all breeding stock is gone but Emus, and he told me tonight that he has 9 Pr (LOL glad it isn't me ! I told him not to do it !! and he told me that he will bequeth all Emus to me when he dies !!!!!!!!!!!!!

)
So...we will apparently have Emu hatching eggs in 2 to 4 weeks.
If anyone wants blown eggs, he will sell those also (for crafts, etc)
And let's not forget that he has 9 pair...

........I am so glad my Dad is just a urban farmer with a great garden...........

...any way. any one know of anyone let me know.
In the meantime, Tamara, my hopes and prayers for your beautiful dog...and Illia, so sad about the goat...and seems so much sadness happened today.
But, Heather revealed...it was not CR pregnant at all !! So much happiness for Heather !!!!

Illia Sorry to hear about your goat. Given what you described the first thing that comes to mind is worms. If you don't have a plan in place for worming I would be happy to share what we did when we raised pygmy's. It's very easy.

BTW what kind of chickens will you be parting with? Not that I can afford any right now but it don't hurt to dream.

WA4-H Hope all goes well with Kelby.

And to all the rest of ya and any special announcements I missed, here's wishing you good things.

Tansy wort grows on the eastern side of the Cascades, it is tall, has fern-like leaves, and on top is a grouping of flowers that are yellow and flat.
And have no petals.
I have never seen it grow here, but we did have it in Northern Idaho.
It is used for many things, and is not usually associated with death of livestock that I know of.
Tansy is cultivated in alot of places due to it's beauty, I like it.
It does not just grow anywhere but needs a certain clime and I am pretty sure W WA is too wet and not enough chill hours.

God Bless,

EEEeee...read further... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senecio_jacobaea the Common Tansy (the type the first part of your link is talking about) is often mistaken for what our area calls Tansy Ragwort which is toxic toxic toxic to everything.... notice the flower differences between the ragwort and the common tansy.

i'll post my link again...

Tansy
wort
Tansy did not kill Illia's goat.
Tansy does not grow West of the Cascades that I have ever seen, and I have neever seen a goat eat it, even in Idaho where we had alot of it.
If it were, she would know it, Illia knows plants and bugs, etc...and if she did have it, and if the goat did eat it, and alot of it, it would have suffered convulsions and died.
What THIS goat had, was a diseas that wastes away.
