By Nature, Last summer I planted peppers outside late and without cover and harvested lots of peppers, serranos, new mex, jalepenos, anchos and sweet peppers like Gypsy however would have gotten a lot more had I got on the ball and planted them sooner and if the weather had been better. The bells I planted in the greenhouse since they are more fragile as far as handling wet. You just have to pick the early varieties and if you buy plants, buy the biggest ones you can find. I don't have a heated greenhouse but do have heat mats since bottom heat is the most important. I start tomatoes early March and peppers late March. I plant them into bigger containers only once before planting outside and I try to get them planted by the time they are 8 weeks. This year the peppers did better than the tomatoes. I am on the Western side.
