Hi all,

My cousin's friend, Grace, found a rooster and now has decided to join our obsession (mwahahaaaa). She is looking for some started pullets and lives in the Issaquah area. If you have any that you'd like to sell, please send me a PM and I'll put Grace in touch with you! I don't think she's picky about breeds (the rooster sounds like a RIR). Young, friendly birds would be ideal.

I'm not sure how far she's willing to drive.

Thanks!

Thanks for pointing that out, Dena. Grace has the link to this thread, so can chime in about what she wants. I sent her a couple of CL posts, too.

The last pullets and hen I bought was from a very nice woman in Preston. About 2 exits past Issaquah. She's a hobbiest/rescuer. She advertises on craigslist, usually only during the summer. I would buy from her again. Don't remember her name, but I could drive to her house. Lol.

Hello,
Although I am a frequent (usually daily) reader of the Washingtonians thread, I rarely post anything. Sadly, after envisioning all my neighbors swearing at me at 6:30 this morning, I have decided I really need to find a new home for Mr. Fluffypants.

Fluffy is a beautiful approx. 5-month old B/B/S cochin. He is a very friendly guy and treats his ladies well. Last night our banty silky was having trouble reaching the new perch. Fluffy stood patiently while she climbed onto his back and hoisted herself up.
Our chickens are our pets. My 5-year old son is allergic to dogs and most other animals and the chickens have really become his pride and joy. He cannot wait to get out in the morning to release his beloved chickens and herd them into the run. He even stood up for his chickens when he was teased at a summer camp about chickens being his favorite animal. Long story, but point is that I need to find a home for the Fluffster where he will be treated well and not turned into dinner. Please let me know if you have any ideas about homes for Fluffy.
Thank you,
Cheryl

I will try to get a picture posted this evening. We are finishing up a nesting area for the girls.

suburbanchickchick,
Before you rehome your Mr Fluffypants, you should talk to the neighbors maybe he doesn't bother them. Also it will be better the rest of the year when it's darker later and window are shut.
You said you "envisioned" the neighbors swearing at you. I'm assuming they haven't yet. My hens wake me up, so it wouldn't bother me if it was a rooster instead.
I've read here that others have brought their roos into a cage at night, in the house, to control early morning noise.
If for the sake of neighborhood peace you do have to rehome him. Good luck to you. Wish I could take him, but Renton is a NO roo zone.

I totally agree with IMP. If the neighbors have not complained try talking to them and I would also make sure to explain about your sons allergies. Some times people will be a little more understanding and tolerant if they know. Also if you have any that are laying try sharing a few eggs. Food is a very good bribe for many of us. Hope you don't have to rehome but wish ya best of luck either way. I am too far away or I would help ya out if ya had to rehome.

suburban....I agree with everyone else. I was afraid my rooster was to loud, then I talked to my neighbors and they atuallu don't hear him unless they are outside. Make sure that you have to get rid of him before you do. It would be a shame if the neighbors did not even notice him and you had rehomed him. I wish you luck and let us know how it turned out.

Oh dear - I wrote this whole thing about Fluff and the neighbors and somehow erased it! Kids are still up and done toothbrushing so I will just have to skip that part. Thank you guys! I am so glad you are all out there!

In better news............THE GIRLS PRODUCED THEIR FIRST EGG!!!

Amazingly, we finished the nesting area yesterday - maybe they were waiting for us. And my obsessed 5-year old found the egg which was the best part. I had walked past and didn't even notice. Off to tuck kids.....

Sorry for the suspense!! I do not have a response yet. After working on the coop all day saturday we went hiking yesterday so no chance to harass the neighbors. I share a fence with 4 other houses and have a set of neighbors across the street I'd like to keep happy. My back fence neighbors are sandwiched between chicken houses! Poor folks.
I had just written that we had promised a couple of neighbors that we would not have any roosters (did not think we had any at the time) and my favorite neighbors were very insistent that there not be any roos. Two houses behind us are some other chickens that have made folks very unhappy. They are kinda smelly and noisy and there used to be a rooster. I was told that there were complaints and the rooster and some of the chickens had to go. Until Fluffy crowed our chickens have been fairly quiet and non-stinky(and waaay less annoying than the neighbor's drum set, squeaky trampoline that is used until 10pm and barking dogs).

We have not had any complaints, but I feel awfully guilty. This morning the Fluffster crowed before 6am. The chickens are in a windowless (but vented) shed at night but Fluffy is still pretty loud. We let them out at about 7am during the weekdays and maybe 8am on weekends. I like the suggestion of bringing him inside at night. We have a downstairs bathroom we don't use. I could black out the window and put him in there in a dog kennel at night. That should be quiet enough. I am not THRILLED about a chicken in the house but better than the alternative.
Thank you so much for the suggestions!!

And can I just say - I cannot get over this egg business!!! I feel like a new mom! I am so proud. I am pretty sure Gretel (buff orph) is our egg layer. Way to go girl! I think Fluffy thought it was all him. He was crowing up a storm last night when we had gone to check on them.
