Well I wouldn't give up hope for Fluffy yet. I would talk to the neighbors and maybe they would even be willing to set a length of time for a trial period. They might actually find the sound of a roo to be pleasant. I live in the country so don't have the close neighbors but my closest have told me they would rather have my roo crowing than the other neighbors dogs barking.

Hey guys... sometimes rehoming roos can be scary but sometimes they can be really great too.

There's a really nice user on here - brownlikewoah who had two roos she needed a home for. She is still looking for a home for her pretty white silkie roo, but we told her we'd definitely take her EE Roo. We met her saturday halfway between seattle and winlock at a favorite bead store of mine and did the chicken deal. And I have to tell you I'm so in love with the little roo already. We have lots of property and I wanted an EE roo for my EE girls so I wouldn't have mixed breed chickens. We already have RIRs and an RIR roo, BAs and a BA roo, but so far no EE Roos... and I swear this guy is so handsome and best of all hes just this meek little talking boy.

I don't think I've heard him be quiet since he's been here. But anyhow, I took some pictures of him cause I'm just so fascinated by all his colors - I keep finding more. He's got these luminous gold feathers, and even some really pretty pentina like purple ones under his wings.

I think we're gonna call him Goblin, but the name is subject to change. He started out as a Tina... man I feel sorta bad for brownlikewoah, cause hes just the neatest bird. It's too bad she couldn't keep him. The one with him eating or thinking of eating the dandilion brownlikewoah took... I just have to say though I totally am thrilled with this new boy, so sometimes giving the roos a new home isn't such a bad thing! In the first pic, hes very unhappy. It's day one, hes off on his own all by himself and though he can see the other chickens across the yard, hes not with any of them (and really wants to be).

So.. don't be afraid to maybe try and find a good home if you need too. There's pet homes out there, if you just look around! We have under twenty chickens, over ten... but I swear, I can post pics of me sitting at my picnic table, and the chickens lounging around with me having a blast. I let them all free range a little too, at different times, and they just really seem to enjoy it.

Centaurheart, so glad to hear you took a rooster and are not only providing a great home for him but truly enjoying him.

You post made me think of something. A lot of you folks know I raise, breed, and show true WBS Ameraucanas. I lost an EE hen this year that I planned to breed with all four of my roosters in an attempt to develop a tri-colored Wheaten.

So I am trying a little experiment this year. I am crossing my Ameraucana roosters with a few of my production line Welsummer hens. I have no idea what I will get. Depending on what I wind up with I will either keep them to further my attempts at developing that tri-colored wheaten or I will get rid of them.

Anyone interested in Easter Eggers may want to keep me in mind. Also, I will be selling Ameraucana cockerel and pullet culls in a month or two. These culls will simply be any birds I don't want to show or keep to breed. They would be a great way to create your own EE's!!

God Bless,

Hi There! I'm new to posting on the WA thread, but have been reading here for a month or so. Glad to see so many in the area enjoying their chicks too!

We just have 6 pullets, who should start laying at the end of the month. I didn't get any roosters since I didn't really want to deal with one. But I don't mind the crowing a bit. The neighbors behind us & the ones across the creek have roos & they don't bother us at all. The hen's "egg songs" are actually louder,

!

Too bad there are people out there who don't enjoy as well

Hope things work out for you suburbanchickchick & if you need to rehome Mr Fluffy, there should be someone else like Centaurheart to give him a great home.

And congrats on your first egg!! We were away for the weekend & last night I noticed that one of my RIR's comb & wattles grew & got darker. They are 17 weeks tomorrow, so we may be getting close!!

yay I'm glad you are enjoying him! I'm sure he will be happy to have some girls of his very own! It is funny, since he has been gone, the rest of the chickens seem to adventure out farther away from their coop than they used to. Now to find a home for that silkie.....

Oh what a pretty silkie - I mean very handsome man! I am so glad that the beautiful EE roo found a home and his very own ladies! I told the boyfriend that Fl uffy was going to have to sleep in the house and he seemed pretty unfazed. This is a far cry from his reaction the first time I told him we were getting chickens and they would be living in the master bathroom for a while ("we are going to have chickens? in our house?! in our bedroom?!"). Now he loves them. I can't say he's obsessed yet, but he did not object to a rooster in the house!

brownlikewoah Refresh me what is the deal on the white silkie roo? I am very interested only glitch is where I live. I-5 exit 68. Wish I had known sooner may have been to get Dentuarheart to bring home since we live like 3 miles apart.

Iron - I can tell you brownlikewoah's roo (the one we got) is absolutely wonderful and hes been handled a lot. He's well fed, very clean, seems very very healthy and has a great chipper personality. I wish I knew you were interested too, we'd have brought both boys back this direction. I knew she had two because she posted in this thread with pics looking for homes for both of them.

I can tell she really really cared too because she was willing to meet us halfway. She wanted $10 for each roo, but I'm pretty darn sure it cost her way more than that for gas for the trip south. I wish more chicken people were like that.

Brownlikewoah - Iron would be a great home! Every pic of that silkie is just gorgeous. Thank you so much again for the roo. He's wonderful!

Suburbanchicken - I think you should try having a house chicken too. I giggled a little about your DH. Mine was the same way with chickens when I first suggested getting some, and now hes comes running to tell me some silly/funny/intriguing thing one of the chickens just did. He also gets that really soft babytalk voice whenever he has to move one, hold one, or get one out of the tree. And he apologizes when he does so.. like they are some grand matrons or something.

Some how I totally missed the post of the silkie roo before. My neighbor has a white silkie hen and we have been looking for a roo for her. Does anybody know of any potential problems breeding the 2 whites? Like with some other animals when ya get "lethal whites" etc.
