SW WA BIRDS FOR SALE

I have a couple of huge beautiful Bev Davis BC Marans cockerels available from March hatch. Great temperament, friendly, gentle, in a pen with several other big roos and bantams - everyone gets along fine. These came from very dark eggs. I saved the shells of a few if anyone wants to see a photo I can post one.

I have a couple of Blue Splash Wheaten Marans cockerels out of Davis lines as well. These are also huge boys, and come from stock that produces XXL eggs. Same great temperament as the BCs - in same pen.

I have several 12th generation Showgirls available, too. Along with a few Silkie/Showgirls. They are all from a mid March hatch. Most are white. I think I have one dark Silkie left. Honestly, I can't tell the sex on any of them yet. You'd be welcome to try. None are crowing. None are obviously laying yet either. I was going to wait to sex them before I offered them for sale, but I really need to thin down my flock.

My birds are in excellent health. I do not vaccinate. All are fed 100% organic, non-soy, high protein feed.

If anyone is interested, I would be happy to provide photos. Pick up only. I do not ship my birds.

I will have some Blue Splash Orpingtons available in the next month or so, as well.

Food Grade Diatomaceus(sp) Earth (not pool grade) is used by some chicken owners to reduce/prevent the infestation of bugs especially chicken mites and lice. It is dusted onto the chicken's skin, and used in dust baths and in their bedding/run. It can be difficult to find locally, and lots of people buy it on-line. It is a little spendy. There is a little controversy about its effectiveness. Some people love it, some think it's a waste of money. (I'm stayng neutral here) It is the ground up fossilized shells of ancient sea creatures. It is supposed to dry out and/or cut the hard shells of bugs causing them to die.
I'll add a link to info abou mites and lice.

I think the bag would say food grade. If it states something like "for pool use" it is not food grade.

For my two cents worth on DE. I am undecided about the value as a feed additive but I do use stall dri, (huge bag $12 from the feed store). Stall Dri is a combo of DE & clay - safe for use with all livestock including chickens. I use it weekly sprinkled into my shavings. I add a few inches of shavings and a scoop of stall dri, give it a light raking and that's it.

It keeps the poo really dry, so it doesn't draw flies and there is minimum smell in the coop. I haven't cleaned my coop since February, really and is doesn't smell. Makes chicken keeping so easy. My daily chores are visiting with my girls, feeding treats and changing water....oh and collecting eggs! Gotta love em.

Don't know what you want to use DE for but if it's just for moisture problems you can get stall dri in Monroe and another brand at Duvall feed. I don't remember the name of what they sell but they knew what I wanted. Plus I think they will order anything you want.

and moved from Tucson, AZ to La Center, WA. That's north of Vancouver, south of Woodland, east of I-5 and right in the middle the most beautiful country. Presently my Lab and I, four goats (two Boer does/two Nubian does) and 24 chickies (six different breeds) in the bator. Hope to here from and meet lots of BYC folks and wish you all the best of luck with your flocks

Hey Washingtonians,

I have inherited a very young (about 3 months old) red cochin rooster because he is evidently starting to crow - I haven't heard it yet. He was offered to me as a meal but he's only slightly larger than those cornish game hens sold in the grocery stores so it seems a little labor intensive.

Since I'm in Tacoma, I'm not supposed to have roosters and probably won't be able to grow him out to full-size so I'm offering him free to any takers as either a meal or an addition to your flock.

Anyone interested, please send me a message... otherwise we'll make chunky soup out of him

-Michael
