I was born in the 60's - Summer of Love, and near San Francisco too (Santa Clara). Only my parents weren't really hippies, and I can't remember much from the 60's, though I suppose many hippies can't either
lol.png

I remember flying on an airplane to my grandfathers funeral in Holland right around my second birthday, I remember when my mom was pregnant with my sister, I remember my dad watching the news from Vietnam every evening when he came home from work, I remember the green bicycle my dad used to ride to IBM every day, I remember people talking about marijuana, and judging by mom's reactions to her name, I thought Marijuana was a very naughty little girl.

When I turned 40, I played the music from that summer all summer long, and when I visit my mom who lives in Santa Cruz now, I can smell that Marijuana is still running around and causing mischief, only I don't think she's so naughty anymore.

OMG I grew up in San Francisco Bay area too !
In San Bruno/San Mateo/ San Carlos then we bought a new home in San Jose on the tri-county line so Saratoga was at the end of the block, at Quito Road...now is Lawrence Expressway...and Campbell down the street the other way was my High School, and the ranch where we all hung out.
Moved to the Pismo Beach area breifly then to Renton WA in 1979...

I have a sister in Ellensburg. I could make it.

Ellensburg would be great, I might be able to make it then. Actually, I would make every possible effort to come. We have a camp trailer and I would just bring it down, or I could stay with realitive in Yakima.

HUSH, you'll wake the snow gods.

Didn't you say you'd shovel 167 & 18, if it snowed? One lane each way is OK!

Thanks,

Russ

So....did the Imp put his snow tires on yet ???????

I grew up in the 60's & 70's, but my parents were not hippies. Actually I think they hated hippies. They referred to anyone with long hair a "@*) )@#^ hippy". Lol! Also from the bay area. I was born in Palo Alto, and we moved to Alaska in 1968 from San Jose. Grammy lived in Santa Clara (Mangrum Drive?) for decades, that was where we visted her. Ketchikan was more like 1950's Mayberry with an emphasis on drugs and alcohol, so no back to the land movement. Funny how so many of us have connections to each other. Guess it's true that we all have 6 degrees of seperation between us.

Ellensburg works for me. I just started a new job in December, so I can't make any firm commitments, so plan away and if I can make it I will. I don't think it will be a problem.

It snowed here all night, but barely stuck. Looks mostly like a slush event.

It has been snowing and raining here on and off all day, but still about the same inch we had when I went to bed last night. This afternoon I drove to Issaquah. There is no snow in North Bend or Issaquah, the snowline appears to be halfway down my street which puts it at 750 feet elevation

I had to go to Lowes for bunch of 1/2 inch hardware cloth to keep those pesky raccoons out of my new chicken run. They don't know how to do math there. 3'X10' of 19 gauge wire is $13 and change per roll. 3'X25' of 20 gauge is $43 and change per roll. I would have expected the larger roll to be about $33, or maybe less since it is thinner wire. I bought up all their 10' lengths but still needed 1 roll of 25'. They would not reduce the price.

I love the happy puppy story

gotta go force my kids to catch up on their homework .... I can hear their groaning already. I bet they are wishing for more snow, and more improtantly, snow in town so school will be cancelled. We can have a foot up here, but if there is nothing in town, it just means I'm shoveling the driveway out so I can drive the little buggers to school.

Friday was trash day ... missed pick up last week because the garbage trucks won't come when the road is icy. We had an extra bag to set out that would not fit in the can. I look out the window shortly after we put the bag out, and the neighbor's chicken eating dog was tearing up the trashbag! DH and I collected the garbage and re-bagged it. Then we had to do it twice more ... 3 times in 40 minutes. The last time DH was really, really
somad.gif
and he went across the street to

at the neighbor. They were not home. DH was even angrier because their other 3 dogs are well behaved ... those dogs were in their house. The neighbors let their bad dog out when they are not home so it won't rip up their house, he just rips up the neighborhood instead! Then DH got an idea. Said he was worried about their dog being out in the street, wanted to make sure it did not get hit by a car. He made it safe for their dog. He hauled all our trash to their house and dumped it out on their driveway so the dog would not have to cross the street to get to our garbage. I liked that solution, though I don't think it makes for good neighborly relations.

Used to have a neighbor when we lived in Monroe years ago, and they had a dog like that, and was a brown mutt dog...it would knock our cans over and get the plastic tied bags of garbage from out cans, and drag it back across the street and rip them open all over their lawn.

They thought we did it and almost started a war until one of us stayed home from work on trash day and caught the action on camera.

child of hippies?

does that count sorta?

counts absolutely. did you like it that your parents were hippies? Kind of the Back to the Land movement. Some folks were already back to the land cuz they never left.
I was afraid I killed the line of thought popping in with my excitement over the music.

nah, I don't think I minded much.. I had a horse and we lived out in the woods. our house had no electricity or running water... and we lived in a tipi for a period of time too. There were quite a gang of us that ran around together. It was fun--pretty loose.

I am actually a child of the 70-80's.
