I was born in the 60's - Summer of Love, and near San Francisco too (Santa Clara). Only my parents weren't really hippies, and I can't remember much from the 60's, though I suppose many hippies can't either
I remember flying on an airplane to my grandfathers funeral in Holland right around my second birthday, I remember when my mom was pregnant with my sister, I remember my dad watching the news from Vietnam every evening when he came home from work, I remember the green bicycle my dad used to ride to IBM every day, I remember people talking about marijuana, and judging by mom's reactions to her name, I thought Marijuana was a very naughty little girl.
When I turned 40, I played the music from that summer all summer long, and when I visit my mom who lives in Santa Cruz now, I can smell that Marijuana is still running around and causing mischief, only I don't think she's so naughty anymore.
OMG I grew up in San Francisco Bay area too !
In San Bruno/San Mateo/ San Carlos then we bought a new home in San Jose on the tri-county line so Saratoga was at the end of the block, at Quito Road...now is Lawrence Expressway...and Campbell down the street the other way was my High School, and the ranch where we all hung out.
Moved to the Pismo Beach area breifly then to Renton WA in 1979...
I grew up in the 60's & 70's, but my parents were not hippies. Actually I think they hated hippies. They referred to anyone with long hair a "@*) )@#^ hippy". Lol! Also from the bay area. I was born in Palo Alto, and we moved to Alaska in 1968 from San Jose. Grammy lived in Santa Clara (Mangrum Drive?) for decades, that was where we visted her. Ketchikan was more like 1950's Mayberry with an emphasis on drugs and alcohol, so no back to the land movement. Funny how so many of us have connections to each other. Guess it's true that we all have 6 degrees of seperation between us.
Ellensburg works for me. I just started a new job in December, so I can't make any firm commitments, so plan away and if I can make it I will. I don't think it will be a problem.
It snowed here all night, but barely stuck. Looks mostly like a slush event.
