tell the story I am tired of babbling to myself...

We've yet to try it in WA, but yes, we'll be doing a lot of three sisters this year. Very excited for it too.

Three sisters is an ancient method of growing vine beans, squash, and corn in one crop. The old method of doing it is by building mounds and growing each very closely to each other, per mound. The beans give off a lot of nitrogen, which corn and squash hunger for, while the squash help block out sunlight to the ground, preventing weeds from growing. The corn helps to keep the beans up without the need of a pole. (the beans grow up the corn stalks). It's a wonderful cycle and also prevents mono-cropping issues that lead to pests.

cool ! I am not doing corn though, but I do 3 or 4 kinds of pole beans and climbing peas...think that will work ? We do not have open tilled feilds here, we have the 100 acre wood, thick forst and we in the center..so all the garden is in raised beds.
Oh, and spied my monster gopher is back in town !!!

I need a big gopher eating cat, that will not eat my chickens !

Hi Washingtonians! We are a couple that lives in San Diego and are looking at North Eastern WA as a possible place to move. Specifically like the Colville area. Is there anyone that can tell me more about this area, or anything that I need to know?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Washingtonians thread!! I think TerrieLacey lives over near there in Ione. And 4cats3kids1hubby2many is a Real Estate agent over in that neck of the woods. I'm sure they will be along shortly to answer any questions you may have!

I live in Omak (I am the Real Estate Agent) ...I don't necessarily work the Colville area...but it is gorgeous. Lots of trees. Lots of Snow. Not to far from Spokane (large city). Lots of wildlife. What would you like to know? Omak is over 100 miles from Colville. Go online and do some research and you can find out some about the area and the climate. I had a client who wanted Colville area because it reminded them of Alaska. Prices are a bit lower than maybe Spokane, better than the Methow Valley (very expensive).

Edited because it has been a long day and I can't think straight.....

Their last name was McJunkin, and they moved about 7 years ago. I don't recall if they had chickens, I don't think they did, but I heard they are roughing it in Montana and becoming very self-sufficient. Nice people.

Oggress. Can't remember her name? 4poultry? But there is a poster here that lives up that way you talking about.
I'm a baseball throw through the woods to Lake Margaret.

I think Greg was referring to me. I live across the valley from High Rock & Rimrock Rd. halfway between Duvall and Monroe.

The Dr there said that he seemed to be healing ok but that he needed to stay down more. He was up and moving alot yesterday.

I had a dream lastnight that I found a pair of ducks down here that were dying and I had to smuggle them home and nurse them back to health! My sister thinks that it is just me wanting my parents to come back towards Seattle.
