Welcome from Hoquiam!!!

If you are good at breed ID's, you might want to check out my contest in the What Breed or Gender am I area. I am trying to get some more competition on it. It will be open for about 3 days I think. Waiting on the judges to send me the list of correct answers.

And welcome again!

Thanks for the welcome! Rainplace, I don't know what "duckponix" is? I put in a big vegetable garden... Compost, fertilizer, etc., but am curious what you're doing.
Weaveagarden, I am from Mason County. We moved here last year. I love waking up to sun... Don't miss the gray or rain at all!

Thanks again for the welcome!

I bet you do. I lived in the Agate area north of Shelton for a while. On Hamersley inlet. Loved it there. We should talk this winter. I wouldn't be in the snow you will likely see for anything. At least not for days on end.

I also used to live in Bridgeport (and everywhere around Eastern WA) when I was a kid. I really liked it all then. But I do remember a couple years of digging ourselves back into our house after we took a trip. I do get tired of the mud in February here however. I am a snowbird at heart. Just send me to where ever the weather is mild.

the short version about duckponix: using the duck pond's water (filled with their waste) to fertilize gravel grow beds. Ideally I will have the water first go through a bio filter and then the grow beds, which further filters the water, and then the water that returns to the pond would be clear. It's based of aquaponics which uses fish for the same thing. Here are some links:

I first learned about this from a thread in the duck forums posted by Wifezilla:

Here's my thread:

Agate! I lived on Harstine Island for 38 years, and I'm 39. I also worked at the local school district for Harstine and Agate. We've already spent our first Winter here, and I will say that snow with sun beats gray with rain, IMHO! I do love the area from about May through Sept. It's just the time in between and the occasional wet Spring, Summer and Fall.
My wife worked at the McCleary school a couple years ago. Now that's Grays Harbor. I would live in the Elma area if I were to live in Grays Harbor.

Interesting. I did google "duckponix" and nothing came up but your post on this website.
It's a great concept for anyone with a duck pond. Keep us updated on how it works in your garden.

Welcome Worn...I'm in Mason COunty too, where abouts are you...I'm in Belfair. This is a great site and I have learned interesting things here!!

By the way did anyone else hear that if you feed your chickens fruit then they will stop laying???? Wonder what you'all think about this??

Well I am still fairly new to chickens but when it was so hot we fed ours frozen water melon and have been feeding them the apples that are falling off the tree right now along with whatever other fruit we come up with. We have been getting 12-13 eggs a day from 15 layers since late July. I don't think it will effect them and I see a lot of talk on BYC about feeding fruit.

All this talk about Mason County makes me think we need our own thread

(Only kidding)

I do live in the Agate area north of Shelton

Drive by Pioneer daily. Three of my kids went there.

There is no snow here!! Well, OK there were these two weeks last winter that were a bit cold, and there was a bit of the White Stufff. Throw in the fact that there a couple of pretty good hills on the way to getting here, and we had free entertainment.

Anyhoot, welcome to all from Mason County!
