I am so sorry CR....someone has to watch out for us "addicts"...I mean collectors...I mean hoarders...wait, I mean avian ranchers...Hmmmm does any of that make sense? Anyway, someone has to watch out that we "collectors" don't go over board. Hey, maybe she meant the cast iron skillet was for the culls....meaning dinner. You could try that route.

Nope that aint gonna work either. After helping the neighbors process some hens I told DW that we will be needing to do that in the next few months to year. And her reply was NO we can take em to the sale or give em away but not gonna kill em.

Now the neighbor has informed me that she is "renting my room" to raise her new chicks this year. Ya see I have an area about 8'x10' in the barn that I made for raising chicks.

Well, sorry. I tried to be of help. My DH won't let me butcher either. I would love to do and raise rabbits and butcher too...everyone in my family is against the idea (DH and kids). I have been out voted.

I think we will be able to butcher here, I will just need to learn how and whatnot .. the Dw will ne'er do such a thing, and if she gives any of them names, they will be under the

Way too funny.

My first DH (not so dear) used to come up to my house and "help" me butcher rabbits (prior to use getting married) - when I was younger. I dropped the knife once and it almost landed on his foot (blade first)...should have seen this as an omen.

Butchering rabbits is easy....chickens...I do not have fond memories of this. I would probably skin instead of pluck.

I guess all you'd have to do is talk the Dw into it, she speaks of them being messy. My luck we would get some and they would fly off with the wild ones that frequent the winter season lake on the backside of the property.

I am not what you mean by raw sugar. I have been told by my bee mentors that there is something in beet sugar ( I cant remember what) that is bad for bees.

Help me out here jbear or anybody else into beekeeping.

edited because my BYC version of spell chekc is defunktive.

What I understand is that REFINED Beet sugar is ok but unrefined is not. It somehow breaks down into bad stuff for the bees. Anyone else know?? I would probably go with either honey or pure cane sugar simple syrup... Like hummingbird food.. But I don't know sugar water ratio .. We haven't had to supplement but we also haven't taken any honey yet either. It is most for sure a straight up learning curve for us right now.

jbear from fall until they stop taking it and again as soon as you can start feeding in the spring it is 2 sugar to 1 water. Then through the summer it is 1water 1 sugar. Ialso highly recommend adding "Honey-B Healthy" 1 TBS per gallon.
