You know. Now that the enitial shock and dramma are over. I find myself having near anxiety attacs every time I go to drive... This happened to me after both of the accidents I have been in. The suckiest part about it, is there really is nothing I can do to stop it, except just force myself behind the wheel, and just do it. But the suffocating feeling I have right before getting in the car or truck... Its awfull, and I wasn't even actually involved in his accident...

I've ordered 8 Himalayan white birches. I'm planting an amphitheater of western red cedars, with a circle of the birches in front sort of like a sylvan temple. The trunks should just glow against the dark evergreens. There will be a clearing in the middle of the circle. I'll under plant with something tough like wood strawberries, and maybe add some wood hyacinths and daffodils for spring. It's not the kind of thing I usually design, but Mr. Hallerlake used to be an architect, and likes formal plantings. This is my compromise; a semi-formal woodland garden. I started planting the cedars last year. Unfortunately, I have champagne tastes on a beer budget, so I'm starting with trees in gallon pots. It will be a loooong while before it looks like what's in my head (if it ever does).

I've ordered baby trees.

What kind of baby trees? I planted 2 apple trees last year.I want to get 2 pear trees and more blueberry bushes.I do need to figure out where I want to put up my mason bee blocks.

you know what i find weird?

i looked up the police reports for pullman. for being a college town there are not a whole bunch of DUI's compared to other places.
there may be more MIP's

but its more of common driving infractions of speeding, failing to stop and other random stuff.

http://www.pullman-wa.gov/policelog/Default.aspx

i just don't really hear much about DUI's here, the most common thing i hear about is people being hit at the crosswalks or from them jaywalking.

you would think there would be a higher instance here but maybe because this is a close campus most people walk?

I am looking at last saturday's reports: complaints, noise, michief, bad checks, parking, falling,
ok on saturday night there were 2 arrests for DUI's and 5 MIP's

i find that a low incidence considering this is WSU and its also right next to University of Idaho too....

If it's anything like when I was in college (which was not long ago- only 10yr), it's because you go to house parties to drink and usually stay overnight there or hop to another house with friends. Even if you go to a bar (which would mean that you're over 21 by that point) most people stay close to home. Unfortunately the drinking usually involves binging (over 2 drinks a night) rather than just having a glass with dinner.

Fortunately I wasn't a drinker in college. But in my mid 20's (after moving out to Seattle), I would go out with 2 close girlfriends every week. We drove drunk one night. I'm ashamed to say it, although I'm sure many people have done it. Nothing happened to us but we always made sure someone was the DD. It was a real eye opener. Nighttime driving is difficult anyway, much more so when you impair it with drinking, talking, texting, eating, reading, trying to mind children, etc. I'll check my phone at stoplights or talk with the speaker on. I don't think it's much different than changing the radio station or having a conversation in the car.

We've had sun off and on the last couple days here.Yay!! come on spring.....
What do you spray on your trees?

I just use dormant spray and sulpher 3 X in the winter.
Especially the peaches and nectarines so we avoid the dreaded peach leaf curl.
I am looking for about 50 western red cedar seedlings, and maybe 25 incense cedar...if anyone knows where to get them from a forestry provider.

I also have 7 baby California meat rabbits ready to go...anyone looking for rabbits, $15 a peice.
They are awesome !
Tonight, and tomorrow, is duck pip day, I hope this one early one is not the only one !!
I saw soo much swimming action at last candle, every egg had a movie going on inside...hope they all hatch !

Spent the last two days getting some of the birds reorganized. I have one more move to do but I'm waiting for them to roost tonight. Then I will be set until my teenagers are ready to move into their permanent digs.

I also added a light onto my two cochin pairs. Neither pullet has laid me an egg yet. These are the two I got from Sheryl Butler in early December and she had said they both hatched last year, but I don't know exactly how old they are. Oldest DD tested and said by pelvic spread, at least one of them should be laying. I'm hoping the light will help to get them going. I think the other pullet is slightly younger, so don't know if she's layed her first yet. They are definently more mature than the one cochin pullet in my teenager grow out pen, she's 15 weeks and still has a LOT more filling out to do, so I'm nearly positive that the youngest one is 20+ weeks, so it shouldn't be too much longer! Both their combs are red too. I got my new incubator delivered yesterday and I so want to put some of there eggs into it! Argh!!!!

I do have two BLRW pullets laying and two Crele OEGB's laying, happy to hatch some chickies for anyone who wants some, just let me know by PM'ing me!!!

Cedrus deodara (Deodar Cedar, Himalayan Cedar, or Deodar)
The inner wood is aromatic and used to make incense. Inner wood is distilled into essential oil. As insects avoid this tree, the essential oil is used as insect repellent on the feet of horses, cattle and camels. It also has antifungal properties and has some potential for control of fungal deterioration of spices during storage. The outer bark and stem are astringent.

It is one of my very favorite-est trees, and grows profusely on the Oregon I-5 corridor area among other places.
Working in sawmills in the Roseburg/Myrtle Creek area we would go down, and retool the entire mill, and then run massive amounts of incense cedar, so by the end of the first night you either loved it or were ready to puke cuz the smell is soo overwhelming.
Those of yopu poor souls that have never smelled white cedar are missing something extroidinary.
The trees also make a wonderful little wooden rose-like blossom that is cool for potpouries.
I want some seedings any one know where to get them ?
I have 6 planted 10 years ago in my property in Northern California...wish I could have dug them up and brought them with, they'd really like it here
