Is this the shamomarans ?

Yup. Got two that are pipping - One pictured from some of my darkest eggs laid right now, and another from my Bev Davis girls who are further along in their cycle, giving more speckled than dark eggs. It is almost a shame to hatch such good eggs and not get purebred Marans from them, but at the same time, these meat project birds are worth it!

I can't wait to see if this one will be barred or not, and if it will be female or not.

( If it is barred, I can sex it at birth. . . This will be my first time hatching barred chicks.)

Yeah, what CL said. Should have read down a bit.

Chicks can go outside at around 8 wks or so, so by hatching them sooner, they are more likely to lay late summer, early fall, before winter sets in anyway. By getting chicks later, you might not get eggs from them until next spring!

OK, we need to keep on with the spring get together !
Who has a big garage or barn ?
We do not need to rent a hall, do we ?
How many are we...20 max ??
So...someone with a large home or a barn (we be use-ta barns, eh!)
If I had a house I would open my doors.
And this summer, we will have camping here !!!
Close to the beaches, oysters, boating on the bay....

My girls were all hatched in about April I'm guessing, and they started laying in the fall/early winter. I'm averaging three eggs a day from four chickens.

So, shamo Cock over marans so the offspring will inherit HIS egg size and color...but a BCMarans Cock over the shamo hen will give you a very large darker (than a shamo) egg...pullet young should show type, Cockerals may take 1 to 1 1/2 years to show true color and type (fully fill out)....whay not a Shamo X Cornish ?

Shamo x Cornish will just make an Asil looking bird.

Also, it doesn't take that long to show true color, and it certainly doesn't take that long in a cross, considering Marans only take 6-8 months.

And, I don't think it makes any difference in cock vs hen on who's who with the breeds. I've had it both ways when outcrossing Marans before and both ways had the same egg color variation (which, I'm not breeding for anyway) and both had the same body type variation.
