My first few full circle famrs box was all from Mexico so I just quit with them and went with Spud.com I figure I can get cheaper produce from Safeway if Im going to be getting it from Chile and Mexico anyway.

One way to learn or remember other languages is their root words. Edificio, edifice, structure or building, the same for lumbre, illuminate, etc.

Unfortunately she does not log on often like the rest of us crazy chicken people.
Oh, and Diane, the eggs are doing great, I am going to candle them tonight.
Then we will know how many are doing and how many aren't...
Russ.............the avatar is fantastic!

Chickielady has been very busy, completely cleaned out all the floor bedding in the big coop...dumped in the compost, then opened a new bale of shavings and spread it around, in the Cochins, the Javas and the RIW coops that occupy that house.
I did the Cuckoos last week, next is the Ameraucanas coop.
It has been raining so did not do bonsai...
I like to do bonsai and then put the thing somewhere and forget about it, and then one day look at see it, and enjoy it.
I also went in the brooder house, and cleaned the babies pen, and did new shavings, and then got the "Kill A Watt" and plugged it into the socket, and plugged the 1500 into it, and started it up.
The 1500 is the professional model like the Sportsman incubator, but the 1500 has no hatching drawer underneath..so from now on to prevent confusion I will just call it a sportsman.
Anyway, the "Kill A Watt" is a little device with a digital readout that measures how many watts a thing is using, pretty cool.
A so far, the sportsman uses 60 watts just fan, and the turner on it uses 104 watts and with the heat coils going it uses a top of 310 watts, and that goes on & off according to the thermostat.
That ain't bad at all.
I am trying to see how many the big sportsman uses, vs the two little incubators.
So far, the sportsman uses less than the 2 little ones.
Today, 36 eggs are being shipped here, and they will go in the sportsman.
I still have FiL's giant Farm Master incubator down in DHs Fort.
It is not being used and I have to work on it.
Dad says it works, but he took the wafer therm system out, and installed a electronic therm system...and so not it has an lectrical wall switch on the outside to turn it on and off, looks weird.

The Farm Master may just be used as a brooder later on....I do not think I need both giant incubators !
I was going to convert my little chest freezer into a brooder..it has such good insulation properties and it is critter proof...DH drilled a hole into the coils when he tried to attach a hasp in order to be able to lock the little freezer, and when he did he killed the coils and all the stuff blew out

..a costly mistake, but I got a much bigger chest freezer out of the deal.
So a heat lamp attached inside, and some big air holes may make a perfect brooder ?
So far, the sportsman is right on with temp..I am impressed with it.
It does have a fan inside that can blow you away, and it makes enough racket that I think it may need a new fan someday...has a whip wobble I guess.
The turner is doing fine..so far so good !
Any sign of our CR ??
It is tea and shower time for me.
Tacos for dinner..and we have had windy, gusty drizzly all day.

Speaking of languages...so many Mexicans coming into the country we are all learning Spainish..and just saw a program on TV about kids (little 4 year olds!) learning Chinese, and they learned so fast!!
The guy narrating the show said it is wise to learn Chinese since we are doing so much trade with them and so many are coming here...crimany !!!!!!
duc.gif

Most Americans cannot properly speak English, then they insisted we learn Spainish, and now that is kicked to the curb and they say we really need to learn Chinese.

I have had Mexicans and Laotians here to buy eggs and cull birds.
Spainish I can barely do, but the laotian...no!

Cool !

We are getting a bunch of Robert Blosl's SQ white rocks..and a big mess of Ameraucana from an artist friend.
I am very egg-cited !
I have Blue Ameraucana to pip Wednesday, and more of my cuckoos too, and a whole handful of OEs as well.
Then on the 22nd, Bolddogkennel's Games hatch out.
So there will be a whole lotta peeping going on here.
And I am also getting about 50 SQ Black Jav eggs from another friend.
So, 12 White Rocks, 24 Ameraucanas, and 50 Black Javas, and about the time they are hatched, my Sandhill order of Bucks should arrive in the post, and another BYCer is sending a doz of his SQ Buck eggs.
Holy Moley.
We are drafting plans for yet another big coop.
This one will not be a walk in..but a up on stilts type with 2 sections in it as the coop I have my Javas in now will not be big enough.

Also wanted to say, my breeding program with my Silver Cuckoo Marans is going super !
I have hatched out alot of chicks with not only fully feathered shanks, but toes also !
Very very cool !
Very rare, I do not know any who have accomplished this. The hatcheries have bred this out, so French Cuckoos we have here !
I will take a few pictures of some.

I have hatched out about 4 so far..and have more due to pip in 2 days,

My hens from a breeder in CA, but had no cock bird, so had to hatch out eggs, and from english stock as there is no french to be had..so after hatching/culling I have this now !
And my original hens (feathered but no where near this good!) are getting on in age.
So, a whole replacement of flock will go on now.

I saw the King Tut exhibit when it traveled through Seattle. My brother and I were so tired that as we went from room to room, we would look at everything and then go sit in a corner and fall asleep until the adults were ready to leave that room.

It's in Minneapolis now through August if you have any plans to go there ... there are no West Coast tours planned.
