You do have a big ole Roo that will out liveall of us you could donate that !!! But nobody would buy tickets. This is for raffle right?

YES!
And no one gets my big "roo".
And so where have ye been all day Mr Rustler ??
Getting in trouble somewhere ?

DD gave me a scare today. She had a little friend come over and they went out in the yard to use the trampoline. The chickens were out free-ranging, and the girls let the dogs out too. The dogs have never been out wandering in the yard with the chickens before - I will let one out at a time under a close eye, or I'll walk them on a leash. I always assumed they would go after the chickens, but they were all fine together! The girls were jumping on the trampoline, the hens were calmly wandering around the yard, and the dogs were following close behind, gobbling up all the chicken poop. Yuck.

Soo... Hypothetically speaking and not naming any names... Say someone got a little Brinsea incubator, and say they found some interesting eggs to purchase to hatch in said incubator, but they were limited by city or county codes as to how many chickens they could keep - is there any harm in maybe keeping one or two that one might favor, and then either selling or giving away the rest? Just so that, hypothetically speaking of course, that they could try hatching and raising a few chicks just for the experience? Would that be ethical, fair and kosher to do in the chicken world?

Hypothetically speaking, someone, who shall not be named, only has four chickens, so she is allowed four more in any case. If she were to hatch some eggs, and were to keep no more than she would have been allowed under the old rules, I don't see an ethical problem since it was rather arbitrary to suddenly cut the number of chickens she could keep. As she's not Jewish, being kosher is irrelevant

, and as long as the neighbors don't complain, I don't see a legal problem either. Since her neighbors seem endlessly fascinated by her chickens, and interested in getting their own, I don't foresee any complaints as long as she doesn't allow them to become a nuisance.

And if it works for someone up north, then the same hypothetical situation just might work well for someone in the southerly direction as well. Oh, the trouble we can get to when we get to musing...

Awe nooo.
My incubator suffered a bad bad case of operator error.
I think my duckies are cooked.
Incubator read 106*F
I got "wet bulb" temp and humidity % mixed up and tried to correct it.
What the apple sauce is wet bulb anyway? A tulip?
I thought I needed 86% humidity, but I guess it is 86* WB, which I just found out is 55% on the hydrometer! I'm a duckie K I LL eR

OMG no wonder my duckie had such a BIG embryo.

I'm so so bummed.
One of them was starting to move about too. And I even ordered a friend for him at Monroe feed coming on the 28th. Now I've got a female Fawn & White with no friend from bator.
Newbie error.

Guess I'll candle them all tomorrow and see...
Maybe wash out the incubator and start over.

that is what my pup Jack does too!
He was so lonely today as I did not let any birds out of the pens..so Jack was all alone. But his favorite are the ameraucanas who calmy walk right over to him and he loves then and they eat his leftover dog food (it is soft by then) and he is visably happy so very happy to have friends come visit him!
They all 'party' and go in & out of his dog house. He adores them, what a good breed he is..half Pyranees and half Australian Shepard.
That and he is only 8 months old now.
Seems like we have had him forever, huh ?
His birthday is in May...wow, sometimes time flys and sometimes it seems like it is flying but it isn't...speaking of which:
Two questions for you all:
1) what % humidity do you use on lockdown (on a fan incubator)
and
2)What the heck would we do if it took 6 months or more to hatch chickens ?
Would we still be so flipping ca-razy about it?
I have decided that DH has completely give up fighting with me about birds/eggs and he actually is egg-cited and is designing coops/pens and genuinely liking the birds.
I think he had this drastic change of heart for 2 reasons:
1) Chicken Rustler and he get along and have so much to chatter about so DH is no longer left alone around abunch of crazy chicken womenfolk, and:
2) the first $40 that came in through direct deposit via paypal right into my checking account for a dozen eggs and he sat right up and is now a sincere chicken lover

That's who those over 55 communities are for; people who can't stand any noise but their own.

Oh heck - so that would mean in just a few months I will suddenly grow very intolerant. I just knew one day I'd end up being a cranky old woman. (Preparing now to stand on my front porch and yell at all the neighborhood youngsters...)

Oh How long was the temp that high ?
Never give up!
Candle them now and see !

The egg temp is now back to 99.5*F, but they were cooking for a good 2 hours or so. I opened the bator to let it breath a bit.
I dare not touch it now. The humidity is still at 75% but it was 88% earlier. I've hooked up my home made hatcher to have it read 99.5*F and maybe tomorrow morning I'll move the eggs over there if they are still alive, then toss out all the water in the 1588 bator and follow the directions on the box cos factory is 55% humidity for the 1588.
Gee, I thought duckies needed more humidity than chicks, so I never questioned the 86* vs 86% part. DUH.
I do have some eggs I was saving for my son's science fair experiment I could use if I need to.
