The problem with live virus vaccines is that it actually GIVES them a small dose of the actual disease, and they will be carriers / shedders of the virus. Our state vet told me to never use anything but killed virus with chickens, unless your flock already HAS the disease, and you need to build immunity to cut losses in your other birds....

Mareks vaccine does not shed bird to bird, I called Fort Dodge and asked......... neither does the Schering Plough LT-IVAX.

A fertile egg will have a white bullseye in the yolk verses an irregular edged circle. Blood spots in eggs is not an indication of fertlity.

Would it indicate a fertile egg that is growing? The blood spot was less like a spot and more like a smear.

She'll add colors to her plate soon enough.

Just this week she has decided she likes spinach salad, and has one every day, so there is hope for her yet!''I do force her to eat greens, takes her half an hour to eat 3T of peas or a couple broccoli spears, and she's gagging the entire time!

Wow! From Cauliflowers to raw spinach. That is quite a jump.
She is on her way!!

so funny--they really ARE chatty lil things too. Once, when the feeder was empty at my mom's.. she had one come buzz her right in the face. Let her know exactly how it felt about the empty feeder!! They have long beaks--could take out an eye if you don't continue to feed the monsters!!!

I was not on all day yesterday due to a power outage and getting caught up today took forever! Something like 30 pages. Had chicks in bins all over the house by the wood stove. Generator is pooping out and only powered a few circuits, definately not the heat lamps and incubator. Was hoping to hold out till summer when people unload them for cheap. Power has been out twice in 2 weeks for no obvious reason. Sigh. Getting tired of hauling things into the house. Had to bring tomato plants in too as the heat matts were off. All this at 1 am.

Got my Delaware eggs and into the incubator this am. And Chicky, thinking you are setting the other set today as well? Makes me think I should have had them mailed here. They will be hatching on the same day. They came from Florida and 4 were broken but set 16. Well, this way I'll be able to make a trek to pick up chicks and meet you. Thinking of getting one of Rustlers bells. Maybe meet you both.

Rustler, How backed up are you on bell orders? Can you get one finished by the time the Delawares hatch at Robins? 3 weeks? PM me.

I found what worked best for my boys was to make them try everything on their plate. They didn't have to finish anything. My parents enrolled me in the clean plate club. To this day, I cannot leave food on my plate, even if I'm not hungry. I refused to do that to my kids. Now, they eat reasonable well balanced diets, and their weight is stable. Food can be emotionally loaded, and it shouldn't be.
