I have 31 chickens in my big coop and they eat about 50 pounds a week.
I can help with feed. Just let me know when I need to pitch in.

Mine free range most of the day, and eat all the rabbit food that my dd's silly bunnies knock out of their pens. I imagine I'll be going thru more feed now that the weather is getting crummy, but I have 5 extra roos that will be leaving soon so it may stay close to the same.

How many chickens do you have? DH already thinks I'm out of control and I haven't even shown him pictures of the breeder/broody coops I want to expand with come spring.

Edit : because I didn't git enough sleep or something. I read 50lbs a week, but still thought you said you were feeding double what I do....I think I'll go look for my brain now.

These last 5 pages are eggsactlly why I am proud to be a part of BYC. You people are awesome. I would really like to help out too but since I have also been out of work for a long time and not making ends meet, I can't help out right now. lucky for us our chickens are paying thier way with the eggs we sell plus supplying the house with eggs.

to all of you who are trying to help this person and I really hope it is legit.

Okay, this is probably the silliest sounding question..

Anyone familiar with "Tom the Turkey Guru"?

He's in Stanwood, and I'm looking for his phone number.. I didn't write it down because I do silly things like that.

Well I woke up early today and did a little snooping. Doncha just love Google? Any guesses about how many Michael Smiths and Maple Valleys there are? LOL. So I went to Dex online and used the reverse directory. The phone number is for a business Md Smith Construction and Renovation. Nice website. Family owned business for 22 years. No complaints with the BBB. Although he is not a member. My initial reaction is that it is probably legit w/ the economic downturn construction and remodeling have been hit hard. Also he is not that far out. Sounds like he is between Maple Valley and Renton. The business actually has a Renton address. That would explain why he's using Reber Ranch.

Russ- I got the PM from Michelle last night, too late to call back. We'll connect today and get something started.

Imp I hope ya didn't take me wrong. I don't quite know how to explain it. Just that we see and hear about things like this that people do to help some body and then the helpers find out they have been (so to speak) scammed ! I did not intend to cast any doubt on this particular person. Again thanks and a big tip of the hat to all of you who are able and have offered help.

Oh, of course not ironimagery. Wise and prudent you are.
Nothing like the word "Craigslist" to send up about a dozen red flags. I too was wondering about this. It's too bad we have to be cynical. At the very least we'll be feeding chickens, after all what else is he going to do with it.

What is the price for Layer pellets over there? In Wenatchee I just loaded up on Purina at 9.99/bag. I go to Big R's by Costco. I love Big R's. They have all their feed inside with prices so you can compare and see what else you want. I love being able to see what I'm getting and the price.

I agree with the Craigslist red flags. I would suggest that y'all take him up on labor. Maybe even just one of you needs something done that might take a whole day or two. If the others are willing to donate the feed for your "project", you can get a deck built, for example, while he is guaranteed $200 or whatever worth of chicken feed he is getting.

$13.50 for 50#s Purina Layer pellets at Reber Ranch. I know it can be found cheaper elsewhere, but it is not worth my time to drive farther for a couple dollars. (I only have 4 hens) Plus Reber Ranch is a pretty nice store. It's more than a feed store. More of a total animal store, and clothing, and household stuff. very nice, very country and a little spendy. They have a couple free dog parks on the property, Do cat adoption on site. They used to have reindeer, that was kinda cool.

Looks like he does some nice higher end work.

Hey, I was just thinking, I know that could be dangerous. But we just rescued those ducks and Nyrial need to build an enclosure for them. SHe has some scrap lumber and what not, but I wonder if he would be willing to help out building a shelter for them. I would have to talk to her, but what do you all think?
