My horse had rain scald every spring. I mainly kept it clean and it went away. sure wish I knew why it kept comming back. She liked to stand out in the rain.

I no longer have her. and I miss having a horse

The only time our 3 use the shelters, is if its raining and windy... If its just raining, they will all wander the fields out in the weather. My daughters pony and my sisters mare havnt had any issue with rain scald. Just poor Prada. I got Prada back in decmber from a gal who lives just down the road from Illia.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Robin's MOT rooster on Friday! What a cool guy! She has some fantastic birds at her place. THANK YOU again for the incubation, you just don't know how thankful I am... however I KNOW that as soon as you give me the last batch of eggs my hens will start setting!

Hey Robin, I "went wild" and entered TWO chickens for the show on Sat! Agincourt the roo and my RLBW (hope that's right, I always get it backwards!). Course both aren't APA approved birds, but hey, that's SO me! : )

Still looking for eggs or chicks for LF rocks (barred, partridge and blue).

Yes yes they do,but they are in the back pasture not up by the house. thats where Id want the ducks.

Ok so this is going to sound really stupid. Here is goes do ducks eat grass? I was told they bill it and dont really eat it.. Head they are good to have with goats becasue they will eat the bad eggs for worms for the goats and it wont hurt them.. Any one

My ducks don't chop grass like bunnies do, but they will eat grass, especially the yummy tender ones & the dandelions. They will eat worms & crane fly wormies and any bug too slow to escape. They will also fish out all mosquito larve and anything esle that moves in the water.
Basically your bug filter for the back yard.
Then when they are done with that, they'll jumo for flies, mosquitoes, butterflies and what ever else out there.

Oh, also if you look closely the tell tale dorsel stripe down his back is a the difference between a dun and a buckskin. You might also be able to see the dun factor like the spider webbing on his forehead. That horse also has the most amazing tiger striping on his legs in the points. Jean has shown him in the Dun factor class which I believe he has ROM in. I showed him a bit as a yearling and he won every dun factor class he went in. She has also done very well with him in the halter classes. Jean, doesn't he have his ROM in halter too? and some Grands? Sadly I had to sell his mom too. Awesome eye candy. Really miss them.

Hey on the topic of horses... What do you all do for rain scald? My 2yr old filly came to me with rain scald, I have treated with vinager, and antimicrobial shampoos, she still has it. I feel like Im fighting a loosing battle against a fungus... I'm hoping that the temperatures stay warm like they have been, that way I can take her up to Diamond Hill, and use the hot wash rack and dryer... Have any sudgestions before I go through another $80 bottle of shampoo?

Tea Tree oil..we use a brand widely available at Walmart, it is pure, and cheap..in the topical fish department called Mela-fix...superior anti fungal.
It is so powerful, just a few tablespoons can treat a large pond with fungal infections on fish.
When we had the koi farm, we used it often,
I have since diluted it and sprayed it on the bird's legs to prevent scale, and all sorts of other issues like hot spots and itching on dogs,,or basic cuts & scraps.
You can use it on yourself, for basic shampoo pr soap making, or itchy business like jock itch or atheletes' foot, in a foot bath.
You could easily mix a few Tablespoons in a bottle of Shampoo & bath a horse, or dilute with water and put in a spray bottle and spray her back.

I love the stuff, nothing better.
I think a bottle is a few dollars at Walmart, also available at Drs Fosters & Smith, Petco & other pet oriented places.
It is pure Melalueka oil..smells great too.

My muscovys ate ALL of my frogs last spring!!! I normally have a bunch "mainly tree frogs" all over my back deck during the spring. but last year the scovies ate them all. One would grab onto a leg, and run. The others would chase after, tearing pieces off...

was a sick thing to watch, but they're just doing what they do.

Have you seen them eat mice? Or sparrows? That's gross, too! LOL

be cautious using tea tree oil on humans

there has been considerable evidence that it messes with the hormone balance in your body

I used it a few times when my rosacea (aggravated by mites) flared up -- but no more,
not with that sort of side effect .. I am already battling Chronic Fatigue

for that reason I would also suggest using it on animals, only in extreme cases
