When my brother and I were little, we overheard my mother one morning telling my dad that some naked ladies popped up through our driveway. We ran outside to see who these brazen naked ladies were (was it the drunken lady and her friends from accross the street?) Seeing no naked ladies, we ran down the street and knocked on several of our neighbors doors to see if they had spotted the naked ladies walking up someone elses driveway. We were rather dissappointed to learn that they were just sprouts of pink lillies; but the adults all had a great laugh at our expense!

Oh we have hundreds of naked ladies in Northern Calif, they love the high desert climes...they pop up & bloom so pretty, then die.
Then the heat sets in, up to 113 all summer from late May until the late October rains set in...and then pow!
The leaves grow up...ALL the native plants in the high desert area go dormant in the heat except the oaks, and there alot of varieties there.
One of my favorite is the California Buckeye, which grows leaves & blooms in early spring..by summer heat in June it appears to die..but slowly you notice the big "balls" which are their nuts, growing until the trees are covered by only these hanging nuts..then in fall's rains, the tree wakes up and grows leaves again over the winter & the nuts fall..washed down the muddy hillsides to root.
Their nuts are similar to a horse chestnut, but the tree looks fig-like.

We had a HUGE Buckeye on the hill behind out house. I love the blooms.

Oh dang - another person to go in with for a group order ... last time we reached the biggest discount level (used FW pearl as filler to reach the discount).

I tried switching my addiction from beads to chicken - not sure which will be costlier and more time consuming!

Oh good gods! I am so not gonna be able to afford to work if gas gets up that high. We dont have acurate bus transportation out here. And the busses that do come out this way are only here twice a day, and not the early morning times that I need...

I'm glad the truck has the anti syphon valve, just wish my car did.

I would love to have a wildlife camera for a little while.

Edited because my brain isnt working properly. Ive noticed since I quit smoking I am becoming very scatter brained... Its almost as bad as having baby brain!

I was tempted to do the sugar in the gas thing with my 5 gal gas cans we keep on the landscape trailer. They've been stolen before, along with 3 blowers which I now keep in the cab of the truck, but thought I'd forget which one had the sugar!!!!!

Buy local. http://www.artbeads.com/

Artbeads is awesome - I buy from them often, especially when they have sales on sterling, of if I want just a few tubes of delicas for weaving; but when I have a huge order, pricing at Fire Mountain is usually best, and they are in Grants Pass Oregon (with a great shop just off I-5 that I can stop at on my way to Cali). Another nice shop is Shipwreck - they do discounts, but not on combined items like FM (FM can be any products, not just 10 of the same thing). Shipwreck has tigers eye that is far more beautiful than I have seen from anywhere else. It is a bit more pricey, but well worth the difference!
