Thanks RFF, I discussed with DH last night and didn't get a huge NO. His biggest thing is dogs in the house (he always loses), I told him LGD live with the animals. You are not suppose to even make them too much of a pet so they are content to guard and not want to be with you all the time. With this litter due in April the pups won't be ready until end of June. That will give me time to get DH more used to the idea and finish some fencing along our road. Thanks for the offer but just not ready yet.

Question though for all you with LGD, Do they tend to bark all night at the moon? or only when there is a 'real' threat? Dh won't like too much barking if it's for nothing and we do have a neightbor within hearing distance that might not appreciate it if it's incessant.

Hi Sheryl!! Nice to see you here!

Awww! I want to adopt one. So many though are too much a family dog and a few it says they are not good with chickens. Some want to be the boss so not sure how well that will go over with our grown dogs. Gotta hold out for a pup. Those poor dogs though, getting dumped at a kill center? Thats just wrong.

Thinking I can get a handle on the barking thing by raising the pup in the chainlink yard first around the house before giving it the run of the rest of the property when it's old enough. That might be a possible permanent situation since the chickens border the fence. The only thing is we give the dogs access to the garage which is on the opposite side so if he is sleeping in there he might not hear or smell anything going on at the chickens.

Can you move the chainlink run ?
OR build a small chicken pen close by so he (she) can get used to chickens?
We built Jack's "paddock" in between the two coop/pens, so he was surrounded by chikens.
We chain him some days & when strangers come over sometimes to prevent him mauling people with his wet mop self.
I think this has really helped him 'love' the birds as his friends.
There are puppies there too!

Thats a cool map but holy crapinola! I got customers calling about their lawns being long but it never dries out enough long enough to get stuff mowed. This is the latest I've ever got started. I might have one day each week to get that stuff done but can't get around to everyone in one day. It makes a huge mess. The mowers get clogged and everything is a green slimy mess and there are clumps of wet grass left all over the lawn. All I need is one dry week to get caught up.

The chainlink around the house is permanent. All my chicken pens are movable chainlink kennels. I could vacate one and use it for the pup. I have one thats a grow out pen with igloos in it already and pretty much in the middle of everything. It's close enough to my back bedroom door that I couldget after him for needless barking. Hmm, that might work. Now I want one now! These other pups won't be ready until June.

Oh JJ would just make me loose it.
Funny how some people get off watching/listening to other stupid people's idiot poop!
Why can't he get off the tube & help out?
Geeeze, years go by all all they do is sit & listen to ridiculous garbage.
I watch America's Funniest Videos sometimes...not often, seems there is way too many reruns.
I cannot sit long anyway, gotta move, and have a hard time forcing myself to lie down & relax, even when I am sick.

Well, He will help more when the weather is 'acceptable'. I think he has that depression where you need sun but doesn't do anything about it. And he needs to have his shoulder replaced and the Oxy doesn't touch the pain anymore so after working all day he pretty much doesn't want to move. He is able to do stuff but the weather doesn't sit well with him. Everytime I walk in the house and he is still in the same spot I want to scream. I should be more tolerant and empathetic but I've dealt with his health issues for 12 years now and it wears me out. Besides, everytime I try to be helpful he gets mad but him living with all his health issues is hard for him too. I'm not the one in pain and getting stuck with needles all the time. Oh well, you know what they say, in SICKNESS and in health.

Vitamin D and a light box may help.
