Chicks as in baby chickens ?
Peas ?
Make sure you cut them in half as they can block the entry "tube" to the gizzard, and back up food in the crop, and the baby will starve to death.
Canned peas are soft enough, but still awfully big for a chick.
Ducklings can eat frozen (thawed) peas or fresh peas, but cur anything round in half with chicks & chickens, including grapes and grape tomatoes.
I killed a adult chicken with grapes

Then afterwards was told not to feed them grapes or any big hard round thing..dog kibble is really bad...softened it's Ok.

were they hard frozen type peas ?
Just cut them in half or quarters..should be fine then.
Chickens cannot grind anything up until it gets in the gizzard, and the tube to the gizzard is about thumb size in an adult bird...the crop is not a stomach, there is no acid in it, just liquids & food, so it all has to funnel into the gizzard, and a nice hard round thing can cork a chicken right up...

Techincally that Cubalaya pair isn't Red Pyle though.

Red Pyle is white over duckwing. Those birds are white over Wheaten. A Red Pyle female will be solid white but for her breast and tickling on her neck.

Yeah they were frozen, I thawed them.. I pulled them. I watched them they were squashing them alot before they went down but from what your discribing they shouldnt have a lot of them anyway.

I got the lawn mowed down the driveway up the hill & under the clothesline before I felt raindrops..I stripped to shorts & gum boots & a tank top (huff puff up the hill with the lawn mower !)
th.gif

So had to shut it off & run to get clothes off the line, and then the sprinkles stopped....all birds got a big cup of scratch to celerate the sun..even the Guineas.
I suspected something with them, they have been super quiet the last 2 days, I was afraid they were died..imagine a quiet (not a peep!) Guinea pair ??????
Is there no such thing ??
I had to go look to make sure they were alive.
So that's it, the ehn is laying, so far not sitting...but I am collecting her eggs (to eat) as far as I can tell, no one wants any Guinea keets.
They are awesome ancient birds..but NOISY.
They never stop buckwheaten' and chit !chit !chit ! and machine gunning ah ah ah ah ah ah ah !!!
LOUD.
Cracks me up!

But aren't they awesome !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Illia, before you disapear again, tell me what gene makes mottled, such as mottled Java, which in this case (Java) looke like a pure black splash over a dominant white, so go to the Java thread and look at the Mottled Java chicks posted,,,,their paint job is exactly what this ameraucana chick I have looks like.
Just wondered about if their is a gene that causes mottling, or is mottling a dom white with black leakage ?
I will be back with the link~~

scroll down to see the juvenile chicks

Gorgeous Roo! I wonder if that is what mine will look like when he grows up? How noisy is he and does he crow often? Neighbor with 4 dogs that run loose keeps reminding me that she does not want to hear any roosters. I told her if her dogs weren't loose, I'd have no need for roosters to protect my flock (of course I'd still need them for more chicks, but she doesn't need to know that part.)

Can you have roosters where you live? I know the neighbor when I got the goats said oh they arent staying are they? The next year when we had two more she said that goats are supose to be afraid of something so they taped it on the internet and it didnt seem to scare them. I know have lots of blackberry bush's so she cant see them. And yes I live on the out skirts of Enumclaw we can have all the animals. What she didnt know is I worked with the King County Conv. and know what I can have and not have. I told her one day that I can have over 30 goats here. She didnt say much after that. You know when you move to the country its the country.

I was watching The Natural History of Chickens the other day. One segment was about a guy who bought a house in a rural area, and acquired 100 game cocks. The neighbors were being driven crazy. The owner said, "It's the country". I understand it's the country, and all that, but 100 roosters crowing at each other all day would drive me crazy, too. The neighbors sued. The judge said the zoning was legal, but more than five came under the nuisance laws.
