Be sure to e-mail us when they are ripe - I can about 24 jars of Elberta's each fall. I usually pay an arm and a leg for two boxes at the local Farmers Market - I'd rather drive over the Mtns and make a nice day getting some from someone I sorta know. Apricots too ... never canned them. Dried or made to Jam. The yummiest I've ever had were from an old abandoned orchard in the hills above San Jose. Never had them that sweet up here ... prettier, yes; but sour!
I would like to be included in the email too!! I love canning and making jams and butters.Does anyone have a good go to person for pears?
My family are pear growers... most of our acreage is dedicated to pears... steadier prices compared to apples...
Bartlett, d"Anjou, Comice, Seckel, Bosc, Flemmish, red anjou, Concord, asian pears.....

I tried using non medicated ONCE and lost two 10 week old chicks to cocci in no time flat. I will NEVER feed unmedicated again. We have way too much cocci in the ground around here because it is so wet.
I agree---I didn't lose that many but any time I've used unmedicated, I'll start losing them...

Well if we do the canning at your house, then we can do the freezer camp at mine. I need to do the actual kill this year. I haven't done that part yet. But with the kill cone (aka a used traffic cone) and a pair of sharp pruning shears, I am going to have to do the deed. Anyone that wants to watch or would like to bring some of their own birds to process, please feel free to come. At this point it looks like we are going to have the freezer camp school on either May 28th, or June 5th. If we want we could do a potluck for lunch.
Ok I'm in! I'll mark it on my calendar! Potluck works!! Anybody for fried chicken!???? LOL! That there that's funny right there!
I will have CALL DUCKS for sale!! 3 males/1 female.. (the female MAY be spoken for, waiting to hear from my friend who might take her...)
I also have a 6 week old cockerel mille cochin and five 6 week old Serama--various colors.. i THINK I have them sexed..
I have a 10 week old pair of Serama (those MAY be spoken for..4 cats?) I am not taking the babies to the show unless someone wants them....
I also have Call eggs (for real this time
) lol! and white cochin eggs for sale.
I can't wait to see everyone!
CR--I am totally excited to see the bells.. I think I know where I will put one..
Jbear: Talk to me. PM me if you would like. Tell me details on the pair. Are they unrelated? How much? Can you send me photos to show DD? Hmmmmm, cochin eggs for sale. Wonder if I could sell those chicks. Alisha (DD) and I just want to hatch babies and sell them to try and make a few $$$$$ for our "project"

if you call ahead we can reserve the "jammers" (culls that are bruised, soft, overripe....)
i am not sure what are prices are going to be this year because the peach crop is going to be very short... we had that cold day in november and it killed many trees and we are not sure how much were cold damaged. so beware that anywhere you go prices will be higher... unless we had another 09 cherry disaster... just the trickle affect of oil prices... many pesticides are petrolum based and all farms use diesel equipment and the warehouses too.
Calhoun farms charges $8 per pound on cherries, but they are yummy! Another guy charges half that, but I usually let those rot in the fridge because they have no flavor. If the fruit is tasty, I'll pay higher prices, I just won't buy as much as I would like.

I just paid $15 per 8oz for organic beef. Got it as a treat for DH.
That's pricey! I hope it tastes awesome! I get my beef from West Valley Beef in Duvall - 1/4 each fall. That is way more beef than our family eats. I'll gladly trade some of it for other foods (fish and other seafood are high on my list, yum!) The beef is not certified organic because they don't won't the expense of going certified. I can't remember how much I pay .... since I get little bills a few times a year, it does not seem to be terribly expensive. I think I pay $150 in March, $100 to the butcher and the balance (another $200 or so) when they kill and weigh it. I got over 200 pounds of meat this fall. Usually it is not quite that much.
I'll trade you some smoked salmon?
Or some scallops?
