Also how big are they any pictures we could see. My husband was going to build one for me but never did.

He sells them for $100 painted, they take about 6+ hours to make, and then add the cost of the supplies to make them, they are pretty reasonable. I use about 1/2 - 2/3 of a 50lb bag in mine each time. He does not make a ton of them, just does it on weekends when he is not busy, my dad is the type that can't stand to be still!

Even when he is sitting his knee is always bouncing! Anyways, I will see if I can load a picture of it, if it does not work let me know!

thank you very much. do I hold for 24 hours after getting them - like Jbear was saying?

Yep but make sure you tilt the egg carton at least twice a day 3 is even better. But its ok if you cant.

Thought while working cattle at my sister's place: if Mark Twain didn't say something along the lines of "Half the Western Expansion was fueled by people trying to get away from their father's barnyards" he should have.

Do the 5 gallon bucket feeders, then they cannot 'beak' the feed out all over the floor !

On the last picture, you can see the sides of the bucket are splashed with feed from the birds 'beaking' it to dig for what they want.
This is easy, cheap, and works.
We even have made small ones for the fledging chicks, out of folger's coffee cans.
DH cur about 15 holes with a door knob cutter around a bucket for my chicks fledged cuz they are so messy!
Bear in mind, a big cock bird with a large neck & comb, such as LF Cochin, will need a bigger hole.
A sawzall works, then sand paper off any sharp edges.

Those are pretty nice! I'd love to have one. I know there are plans available but I'd never get anyone around here to build one. Too bad I won't be able to make it to Canby this weekend or one of those might jump in my car.

Thanks CL I had seen yours when ya showed pics before. My concern is where to put enough of them so 24 can eat. Also I have a real thing about rotating feed so the oldest gets used first. How do you keep the feed on the bottom from getting old and stale. I will try to get pics of my idea tomorrow.

Welcome to BYC...

and I HATED living in California...113 degrees in April & stayed 110 or so all the way to October.
We spent 7 years of our lives stuck either in an air conditioned house or in an air conditioned car...melt the make up right off your face in seconds.
That was Lake County, hate it!!!
I need the cold, I was meant to be on a nice foggy hill in Inverness Scotland

The heat made me so sick I was trapped indoors, and so hot at night you could not sleep...but yeah, THIS "spring" has been horrible, not just here, but in California too, and all the way across the states.
