So I think I want to get either so Light Sussex or Deleware eggs. Does anyone have an opinion as to which is more docile, friendly, hardy, broody, or preferable? Personal opinions readily accepted!

Haven't been on BYC all week!

Will try to catch up tonight. This week has sucked big time! Ready for it to be over. DS got suspended Tuesday for being openly defiant of a teacher.

I could just kill him, except I think someone would call CPS on me. Lol! So he is seriously grounded at the moment. Not able to go anywhere, do anything, except homework. I wonder when kids learn to think before they act or speak?

Anyway......going to work now, TTYL!

Now I have heard of packing eggs in a lot of things to protect them during shipping. But this is the first time I have heard of using WATERMELON.

These are actual chicks. Seven of them. I hope they realize they'll never get properly ripened watermelon again.

well, ya think about it. The watermelon gives them fluids and food. Keeps them good for a couple of days. Makes sense.

I have an 18 yo that has given me headaches from the beginning. He is a good kid....but just doesn't think at times. I have taken away everything but air....and I have thought about taking that away too. In our house the big punishment was ....anything with a screen goes and you have to earn it back, ie. computer, TV, nintendo, x-box, etc. This one would work well for us. My son would actually get in trouble so he could go to detention as he liked to be there - it was a social event. So, I went to the school counselor and told him I wanted my DS to have detention during lunch, with no one else in there...worked like a charm. This too shall pass, and if you don't kill him (joking) all will turn out well.

I can sympathize. I tell people this is why I prefer dogs and chickens....Chickens - if i don't like them I chop their heads off and eat them. Dogs I lock in a crate or tie to the tree. Unfortunately, CPS does not like either of these options for children.

I actually went to his 5th grade teacher (who had been my 5th grade teacher) and took the teacher a roll of duct tape. I said, "use it on his mouth if you need to". It was of course a joke and the teacher understood. That teacher was actually one of my son's favorite teachers. You may have to be hard a** mom for a few years. But mine has improved (still does things that anoys me) and I am told when they move out on their own....they seem to pull their head out and have a "lightbulb" moment that MOM was right. I'm waiting for that moment - mine has not yet moved out. He has 1 more year of school.

I just wanted to join in from Spokane.
I'm not a chicken mommy yet, but tomorrow yay!
My partners daughter is driving over for Easter and bringing me 4 babies. I don't even know what kind and don't care to much.
I feel like a new mom with all kinds of questions and despite reading tons, I still am not sure what I'm doing. Tomorrow morning I hit the local feed store. need food dishes, heat lamp, and food. They hatched last week so are itty bitty still, so will be in the house awhile, especially with this crappy snow.

You don't need to worry about trying to be nice and sharing that stuff. We have cold and sunny here right now so it looks to be a nice day to finish the build on my banty coop.
