She sure is a cutie - someone here put a dibs on her right? I don't have room for another Ameraucana or I would have considered it. All of your babies look like they're enjoying the day!

Yes I believe it was broodytood "sp?" that put a dibs on her. That is IF I remembered correctly! lol And thats a BIG if. I love this weather, makes me feel not quite so achey and down.

Happy Easter everyone!!!

I've not been around here much lately, but am always thinking of my fellow BYCers

What is the .........
barnie.gif
................. for?

Today just isn't a great day. But, weekends normally aren't. Just, lately have been better than this weekend. Sort of. I honestly have to say, I HATE weekends.

What causes your week ends to hate them?

Got the boards for the floor frame of the coop proper salvaged and moved over to the coop construction zone; next I need to level the ground for cinderblock foundation and put down some sort of sand barrier so they don't sink into the ground. Then floor, flooring (I'm using linoleum under the bedding for ease of cleaning) wall and door frames, walls and doors, roosts, roof frame, roof sheathing, roofing, siding, paint, wire and temporary south and east wall shutters- temporary because I'm not sure until I get to that point where I'm putting the nesting boxes. Oh, and expando foam insulation in the west and north walls, rigid foam in the roof, and various vents. I'm looking for air-to-air heat exchange vents somewhere that's not my house windows for the permanent greenhouse shutters.

And somewhere here I've got ten rebar ground anchors that Dad made for me (because I can't cut rebar even though I have a random twenty foot chunk of the stuff bent into a pretzel). I want to anchor the floor frame to the ground through the cinderblock because while the coop is in the lee of the hill and it's being framed on 2X6s and will have 5/8 oriented strand board subfloor, well, I remember the Columbus Day storm quite vividly, and would prefer not to have to pick up even a little chicken coop.

Interior is going to be high white glossy enamel, exterior barn red, and I'm looking for a pattern for either a witch circle of a nice Celtic tree-of-life to put on the north and west walls.

I'm going to have to finish the run this week and move the tractor into it, but I haven't heard from Del's about my gate yet so that's not happening soon. I may have to stop the run and put an exit into the chicken tractor so I can free-range I&S, who are getting bored, bored, bored.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and silicon caulk on all the interior seams to deny tiny biters any place to hide.

I am setting eggs tomorrow (close enough?) in a Brinsea Octagon 20. Can I join in? It's my first hatch since I was a kid.

The more the merrier! What are you setting?

I have a little assortment of Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers, Black Copper Marans and Lavender Orpingtons.
There are 21 total eggs going in first thing in the morning.

I've been outside trying to figure out which of my quail are males and which are females. I've been watching them for like 2 hours and when they crow I nab em and paint their nails neon green so I know who the boys are

They look absolutely ridiculous sporting bright green toes

Cheryl: I lived in Indianola when I first got stationed at Bangor. What a FUN little area, without all the traffic and stress, but noone ever knows where I'm talking about!

QueenChick and Rare Feathers: Hallo from Oroville. Moved to the Okanogan in 07 and lovin' it! Brand new to chickens and they're gonna have a finished house before I do.

Okay, if we are going to be doing the hatch buddy stuff....I just set 28 Orpington eggs in my Brinsea 20 Eco yesterday. can I join in? On my first hatch I did have to refill the reservoirs every 3-4 days to keep the humidity up. This will be my second hatch. I am excited.

Yay, another hatch buddy!

. What kind of orpingtons are you hatching?

I got buff orpingtons....she sent along 4 exhibition blacks (not sure what this meant and was going to ask later). So we will see what all I do right this time and see what I can get to hatch. I am so excited.
