Hello Everyone,

It has been quite some time since I've been on this thread however a recent situation has developed where I felt it necessary to make this post.

Some Jean Hesterlee, who I do not know and don't believe have ever had any dealing with, felt compelled to email me and say:

"You have made a bad reputation for yourself with barnevelders, peafowl, welsummers, and other birds. You underestimate people in the Puget Sound who communicate with each other. Bad birds, one quoted price and another in person. The reference to seeking righteousness first is a particular slap when your integrity has been lacking with the birds you sell and how you sell them. You might be surprised at just "how many" people you have turned off and how many people they've shared their bad experiences with. It is many more, I'm sure, than you realize, including those on Backyard chickens." After telling her that I am aware of only two individuals who are upset with me and what happened with those, she went on to say, "I "personally", know 7 people who have had such disappointing experiences with you, none of which you were willing to correct. These 7 are none of those you mentioned. Further "we" and "I" have heard of others."

So I am making an open and public request to everyone on here. If you have a problem with me, my birds, or anything else concerning interactions with me, PLEASE come talk to me first before you go badmouthing me, complaining about me, or gossiping to others in any way. If you have not had a bad experience with me and tell someone else what you heard, then that is gossip. Hearsay. Plain and simple. And I would ask you to stop it.

Concerning the accusations, I will just say that those of you who have attended the shows know the birds speak for themselves. As for the prices, that is simply a lie. I do not do that and those who know me, know that I would never intentionally try to mislead or take advantage of anyone. I treat everyone the same and I don't show partiality. And, as I told this person, most people who come here and buy birds from me go home knowing they got more than what they paid for.

So again, if anyone on here has a complaint against me, please contact me personally to see if we can work it out. At the very least I hope we can agree to disagree and separate peaceably. If you don't like my birds, don't buy them. If you don't like my prices, don't pay them. I have never forced anyone to buy anything from me and I have never had anyone leave here letting me know they were upset with me. As I told this Jean person, I can't fix what I don't know is broken. So do the right thing and bring it to my attention. And if you are just passing on hearsay, that's gossip, and I would ask you to stop it.

God Bless,

You and me both, she doesn't need disappointment.

Ian and Sylvia are doing well, by the way- a bit disgusted with me over the quality of the weather (I had to move them onto wet grass yesterday, which got me some Stern Looks) but growing and feathering out quite gorgeously.

Got cats. In fact I have let the youngest (5 years old) spends the night in the coop/run quite frequently. My feed is kept in tightly closed rubbermaid tubs (tight fit lids)....it is the feed in the feeder and the kicked out they are getting, so they are fed and then sleep tight in the insulation of the coop. I have started to rip out the fiberglass insulation. All the pink styrofoam insulation has little to no mouse damage....fiberglass - ya, they pretty much made castles and tunnels in it. All of it is coming out. When pulling out one long piece a momma and older babies fell out. Unfortunately no cat or chicken around. I decided to wait until I got a face mask to pull any more down.

The feeders are the orange buckets like CL has. Only two of them. I am going to set some sticky traps, tonight after everyone is in bed, along the walls of the run, near the food and check them first thing in the morning. I can just see one of my fat girls checking out the sticky trap and getting it stuck to her foot. That would just be hilariious, wrong, but hilarious.

On another note....I have dug out the run and I have 10 yards of washed sand being delivered tomorrow....

Guess I know what I will be doing this weekend. LOL.

Well off to work. Oh, and no ducks or geese for me. I have limited space (at this time) and am saving it for chickies.

How are your walls sealed? I have insulation in my coop, too...but I have moisture barrier and OSB over the top and caulked along the bottom...sealed tight. Since letting the cats in the coop every night and keeping the mouse nesting areas down to a minimum (I no longer store anything in my coop other than extra light bulbs and bags of shavings)--no mice issues. I hate mice! LOL

Oh good for you with the sand!!! Where did you get it? So far this year I've put in (well, not me but a teenage boy) 5,300lbs of sand. I still need another load or two to finish the last three runs.

My coop is an old playhouse. So it is just treated wood sitting on the ground. I have plans to try and actually dig a foundation and pour some concrete under the edges this summer (maybe). I am changing out al the fiberglass insulation though. I want to make it as least hospitable for micies as possible. Okanogan Valley Concret is delivering the sand for me. $8.75 a yard $80 for the truck...so I thought what the heck....get a full 10 yard truck full. Not sure if I will need all of it or not...but it will get used somewhere. I bet I use every last drop of it though.

Oh ok. It's hard to keep it all straight. Did the eggs come from very far away?

Quik question on sand in the runs...

How deep is your sand? Whats the best depth for chicken runs?

I was doing mine as deep as I could 4-6 inches. Rff - want to peep in on this one?

i just walked by the master plan that WSU has and what I saw ticked me off. the main road through campus would be elminated and turned into a giant crosswalk.....
I don't want WSU to be like the Moscow campus. Stadium Way Road needs to stay.
stupid waste of money.... if people are being hit crossing A. increase the fines B put in more sky bridges. don't eliminate the road because no one knows how to look both ways... Waste of my college tuition.

If you see absolutely NOTHING in them, as it is clear....it is not fertile and you can remove it so everything else has room.
Again, here is a youtube showing...sorry, I learned a lot from these:

This is day 14 for her....I like this one poster. She did have a video candling goose eggs that were not quite as old.

I find them very informative. Need to go and watch more and learn more.

And regarding exploding eggs...what I have been told: smell the egg. If it smells bad/rotten - throw it out before it explodes.

ETA: Because here is the one I liked. candling on day 7:

Thank you - I like that you've previewed the videos so we know the best ones to watch! I've already viewed a couple of the others you've recommended and really enjoyed them. You can be our own BYC movie reviewer...

So I will watch out for the clear eggs next week along with sniffing them and if I find any will toss them. Thanks!

Movie reviewers. I have a couple of favorite posters on the Youtube that I have learned a lot from. I figure anything that is under 30 seconds is probably not going to teach me anything. I still go through and try to learn more stuff.
