We have seen huge flocks of cranes & geese flying south in the last few days.
I think they are confused & think it is fall.

I candled my eggs last night, and pulled 14 definately clear eggs out, cracked them open, and it was like yellow water pouring out of the shell... There are also 5 iffy eggs, that I chose to leave in the bator, just in case. Was a big bummer to have 14 clear, and 5 way iffy eggs out of 30. But the rest have movement, with fetuses that look like they have HUGE eyes. lol was cool to see.

Do you know what they all are?

All but two. There is the Dino egg, that is viable and growing, then there was one with a ? mark on it... But that was clear. The seller marked all the eggs with abreviations of the breeds, but didnt send the list of what all the abreviations mean... So I know I have BCM crosses, some pure BCM, some FBCM, a couple light sussex eggs, one BLRW, a couple banty eggs, and one that is marked with an F... Have NO clue what that one is. it looks just like the marans eggs... Oh wait! I know now, dumby me. It should be a FBCM.

I did mark the iffy ones so that I know who is who. lol

I must warn you! You WILL get strange looks from the store workers! lol

Every time I ask at a new store, I get these goofy looks like I am insane. Then I have to explane the entire process, and why it works. lol Cracks me up. I miss the local pet shop that used to be here in town. They would save a weeks worth of poo for me then call me up. lol Feret poo is alot like cats poo...

It will last and be effective for 4-6 months so long as it doesnt get wet.

I wonder. I do not have access to ferret poo...would cat poo work? But cat poo can stink, but so does ferret poo. We used to have a ferret. His name was Frank and he was the sweetest thing.

What on earth ????

If you want to chase off predators, use dog doo.
You can shovel it in a bucket & "sprinkle " it all around your "yard"
Ferrets ?
I would think it would attract bigger predators ?

I do remember a little bit of the discussion about the lights and I think you are right. I "THINK" they said to leave the light on because if not they will go to sleep and could shrink wrap.

CL was wondering if a light left on would help them during hatch, like keep they awake. Really they shouldnt shrink wrap unless the humidity is to low or you keep opening the incubator during hatch..

for hatching chicks it can take up to 24 hours for them, they have a lot of hard work to do in that time. Now with that being said I watch and see if they are slowing down on the end or have even stoped and than I might help them out.. Ok so DH has made me promise to not help any out after the big hatch goes, like one's that are late. Why because most of them have problems being late hatchs'

Where does ron b live?

Herbandteas-In Woodinville about 10 minutes from me. He originally didn't want to get rid of any of his EE's but was being nice to offer me one with the stipulation that I trade some eggs with him if they were a different color and to get him a replacement chick next spring. Pretty nice of him, and I guess I blew it.

Didn't mean to hurt the poor little girls feelings, "cause she is super cute!

Thanks Ron! Make me feel even worse! On a public forum no less!

No candling during set.
Candle when you get them..to X the bad air cells.
Do not wash them.
Excess poo can be lightly "sanded " off with an dry abrasive scrubby pad (3-M type)
let them rest at least 24 hrs in room temperature air cell up.
Then put in the incubator turner.
If no turner, mark X on one SIDE and O on the other side.
Put in incubator set at 99.6, and humidity 37-47 if possible.
And roll with your arm to turn 3 X a day if you do not have a turner so each turn either X goes down or O.
At day 10 or so you can open the incubator quickly & remove eggs to a carton & candle and mark any not showing veins.
Practice what a undeveloped egg looks like with a store bought egg.
Mark any "clears" (undeveloped) with a different mark (a check?)
Then replace them in the incubator
At day 17 or 18, repeat the candling..and all fertilized & developing should be dark, and have much bigger air cells, replace in the incubator.
The "clears" can be scrambled for your dogs or chickens.
Raise the humidity to 550-60% by adding a sponge, and do not open the incubator or turn them again..day 21 you should get pips, and followed by zipz & chicks.

Alrighty! guess that sums it up!! THANKS CL!!! You guys rock! I'll let you know of course how we progress! yeaaaa:weee:jumpy

Okay, since I am a new learner (and kind of a slow one too
lol.png
)......do you draw lines around the air sacs when you candle? why do you do this? Does this help to monitor? Please tell me...I want to learn.......my brain is a sponge (well I meant like absorbing info...not just smooshy and stinky).

I dont circle the air sacks think she did it to show us and to keep track of it.
