You tilt the egg carton from one side to the other side, I do it about 2-3 times a day. The one with poo on it try and scratch it off the best you can. You want to have them site for 24 hr than put them on. Make sure your incubator is on now and get it to settle down with heat and humidity. What kind of eggs are they??

thanks! they are Buff Orps to replace my three layers, I have the brinsea octo 20 with auto turner, k I will

Ok Chloes napping, heres my chance to shower, and get some wor done. TTYL! Hope the sun is out for everyone at least for part of the day!

didn't mention it, but yesterday we got the fifth and last ore trough bailed out and all the nasty dead leaves doing their anaerobic rotting thing, removed (temporarily anyway)

and the trough skidded across the yard to the coop area
th.gif

this one was harder to get out because some of the shrubbery had sent roots right up INTO the layers of plywood, so it was literally rooted to the ground --- we got MAD and shoved HARD, and it all broke loose

now I need to get out there with measuring sticks, make sure I get everything set up the way I want it for the chicks

(since they may have to fend for themselves, pretty much, when we are gone; DS says he'll take care of them but he is so busy he may neglect)

DH is going past Harbor Freight today, will take a look and see if there is anything there that would be useful in the coop or run; I need to get some closet shelf hangers to mount a poop board in the coop

either that or turn the existing double-nest box (which I removed, poor construction and lousy location up near the coop ceiling) -- upside down since it has a framed-in area on its "bottom" about the right size for a poop board .. I can put a couple of surplus dish drainers inside it, underneath, to give them a place to hide and nest if they start having that sort of urge

I still have some leftover bedding shavings to pad those --- I gave up on shavings in the brooder box because they got ammonia-ey in two days

poop boards in action!!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/50801_poop_trays_028.jpg

another coop~

and still another one

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/50801_poop_trays_030.jpg

poop is scooped off the poop board in a dusting of sand, and sifted as you do a cat box, and dump in a bucket, every other or every 3rd day as you have time.
The floor stays clean, unless you've juvenile peeps running around on the floor.
Big birds go outside and rarely poop in the coop floor area.
I clean the floor shavings out & replace it every 3 or 4 months.
Love this system!

Wow! that's nice!! Beats cleaning every couple days and I have a garden ready for the manure!! awesome!!! thanks!

The poop is covered in a coating of the sand (I buy sand at HD) and it is wonderful to compost & add the savings & sand covered poops...easy, takes me 10 minutes to scoop poop boards off 5 coops..great addition to clay soils, and the worms LOVE it, shavings, poop & sand.
