Just because I pushed my sister down the stairs on rollerskates, means I am due karmic payback? Ok, maybe, but it was really funny,

and she made me sooooo mad sometimes!

I haven't taken the picture of the egg from this morning yet, but here are a couple of pictures of my girls. The white one is my Marans, who layed me the pretty dark brown egg. I have blown out and kept the the shells of each of my girls first eggs when they started to lay. It is regular size too! No small pullet sized eggs for her!

I went to lock up the chickens tonight and take the new duck from his solitary confinment in the garden and put him in his quarentine cage. I could not find that muscovy anywhere!! It ends up that he was roosting on the wire covering the chicken yard! It's a good six and a half feet up. I'm five two and was the only one home. I had to push at his feet with a broom handle and get him to get off the wire. Silly darkwing, if he keeps it up he may end up with his brothers in the freezer. I'm sure he's just lonely. Every time one of the chickens gets close he wags his tale at him. Next week the lady who gave us him is dropping off some ladies for him so he should be a happy boy.

WG not sure what ya mean by raspberry. But I don't care about being called thief and in fact considered using that instead of rustler. I decided that rustler sounded a little less incriminating !!

Now not to change the subject but I'm gonna !!!

If anybody is interested I have a BUNCH of saw blades 19" and 28" circ and 10-11" wide band in lengths from 2' to about 10'. I would be more than happy to bring several of these with me to the party and would give quantity discount. These are great for painting on .And because they are high carbon steel they are also great for knife blades.

ETA SILLY me I keep fergettin the mostest important. We finally got the first 2 eggs from our Speckles. She was bought as a tiny chick in march then she got very sick and I didn't think she was going to make it. She got better so I put her in with the flock but really didn't think she would lay. On the 26th DW came in all eggscited cause she had this little white egg. And again on the 28th we got another. The first was cone shaped and the second was perfect and a little bigger. We know for sure these are from her cause we caught her in the act on day 2. I am not sure but think that Speckles is a Sicilian Buttercup. We are so pleased that Speckles has started laying for us.

Hi Everyone!!!

Does anyone know any 4-H kids in Cowlitz County that show chickens?

I have several Marans chicks that I would like to give to a kid or 4-H group for promotion and preservation of the breed and its traits.

Thanks in advance!

i noticed something funny about the two millies nyrail gave me.

is it a milli trait to not have a claw on the toe that is covered with feathers??? both chicks have one toe with out a claw(on both feet).... and it doesn't look like it was broken off or anything.... just was never there....
i am curious....
i have heard of breeds with 5 toes... but none with missing toenails.....

OK.... I am telling my sister tale.

I was a middle child. But still a big sister by about 5 years. A few months after my sister was born, I took her outside at the sitters house and put her in the garbage can. I guess I thought she had been around long enough. Gee, I hope my bad karma has already visited me. Do you think that I get bad karma because I can still laugh a wicked little laugh about it?

Nyrial - I got a few speckles on my 3 red hens eggs a few times at first. It seems like now they are a nice constant terracotta color. I think I have heard that Welsummers will sometimes lay a speckled egg. Your lighter color egg looks very much like those that I get from my Barred Rock. I also get some that are in the middle of those in the picture. They are from my Orp, and my Australorps. Also from my dark cornish. Does that help to ID the layer of your light egg?

They are hatchery birds, I never said anything about show quality.

Does that help to ID the layer of your light egg?

I don't have any BR or Orps. My Australorp is still pink.. No idea

I might be doing some coop camping this weekend,

I just figured out that I have a port to plug my SD card from my camera, directly into mylaptop. Makes downloading pictures a snap! Here are eggs from my girls.

The darkest is obviously from my Marans, the second darkest is from my sexlink, the third is from my BR, the lightest is from my BO.

That is interesting. I get a much lighter egg from my BR than my BO..... At least I think I have that right. One of the lightest, I actually saw being laid, so I think that is right.

The other two are as I expect. Are you finding that your sex link lays pretty big eggs right away? My mom's look very much like yours and their eggs are jumbo size already.
