It's revenge from the little sisters for the older sisters telling them that "mom won't mind if you pour sand down your little sister's diaper" and then telling on said little sister.
Consider sibling karma SERVED!

glad it wasn't serious with your girls. Ya lost me on the picture thing. I'll check with keri.

Its kind of a hour by hour thing with Kala (my dog) she wants to walk anytime I ask her. She actually does better when she is kind of troting then when she is walking slow or standing still thats when she wants to fall over.
I'm going to get a second opinion. might try acupuncture. it works pretty good on my sisters Rot.

slow egg day 5/7

I have a few things that I would like to comment on, without sounding like a know-it-all.

Anytime you can get your chickens to get good and full on cold days with oats or bran or scratch is very good. They have an internal furnace and need to be stuffed every day during these freezing temps. Try to mix it up as much as you can and they will eat more.
Personally I use (you don't have to) cracked corn one day rolled oats with molasses the next three-way scratch after that, mix into there layer pellets a medicated chick starter that is about a 10-1 ratio. After all that, they still will not eat out of my hand? Don't figure?

Introducing new birds into your flock is easier than told.
What you need to do is after all are in bed toss in your new bird. Simple. There maybe some pecking order the next day for a little while but alot better than if you toss them in during the day.
You will be amazed at the difference.
The closer to the same size the better it works. Just as WG has stated.

As of now there will not be anymore free chicks as I have completed my fix in my flock.
However I may be able to work deals for different quantities.

My beautiful dark(er) egg.

The one on the left was the first from yesterday, then the other two are from today.

I noticed there are fewer speckles on today's dark egg? Is this normal or is it a different bird?

I'm wanting to get some dark layers next year... thinking of black copper marans, barnevelders, delawares and welsumers...also thinking of leghorns for a few whites and maybe sussex for cream colored. LOL, I'm just wanting as mixed up an egg basket as possible, I guess... Sussex are supposed to be good moms, too...

I use a different method than eagle for introducing new and have found it to work well for me. I am not saying eagle's way is wrong or that mine is right, just different. I take the new birds to the coop, toss out a bunch of goodies for all amd make a lot of comotion and put the new birds right in. I have found that by doing this they aren't noticed much and there is not much fighting.

It will happen Donna. I think it isn't uncommon for ducks to take some time off in the winter. Also, at what age do they usually start laying? Not the commercial layers, but nice special ducks like yours?

If you don't have duck eggs by the party, remind me and I will bring you a bunch of chicken eggs.

Either of you have probably raised more chickens than most of us. It is helpful to get a variety of opinions. Then we have other ideas if something doesn't work. I keep forgetting about the oats and molasses. I am going to have to buy a bag of that. Cheaper than buying from the bulk food store after all.

edited to say:
I am so glad you got your situation worked out with the chicks. I am also glad to have gotten some of the freebies. I can't wait to see how they grow. They are feathering in very well. The little one with the white (Barnie) is almost like the others now. I will try to get a pic in the next couple of days. They are just about 4 weeks.
