Ok, I was watching Man Vs Wild with Bear Grills. And he said that male pee has testosterone and other pheramones in it and so it works and female pee doesn't. So what am I to believe?

Kim

We have had my DH pee in a bottle then sprinkle it around the gate as we have neighbors who let their animals poo where ever they want which is in front of our yard and right where we get out of the car to open the gate. The idiot who owns these animals suggested to DH that stepping a in poo is not a bad thing.......he got an earful for that one.

Sorry about your friend Ron. Tough to go through.

And of course you are welcome at the party. I suspect you'll still have chickens. If you need help with anything, you know you can ask.

Congrats LaSombra- So little, too bad it doesn't last longer.

Russ- And about he pee. Doesn't work on moles. And as I remember didn't do anything for cats, squirrels, raccoons or possoms either.

I was just thinking more about canine and larger animals. Not rodent type.

Ok, I just read that alpha male and alpha female dogs and wolves will mark territory the same. Interesting. If female pee works I would not have a problem spreading my own urine around the yard around the chicken coop and at the back of the property. I would have to pee into something, because I am not dropping trau to do it. Neighbors might see!

I figure, any pee in a storm. I will start collecting it from passers-by if it will keep the predators at bay. So far

I haven't had an insident. But I suppose it is only a matter of time.

RonB - I know what you mean about wanting more time. I would give the aspirin and Gluc/Chon a try. You never know, she may just perk up and give you anothe couple of years. Check with the vet first of course.

geez you guys posted alot today....

the chicks are soo cute still. tomorrow i am moving them into a horse trough with a new heatlamp i bought today. they have been living the past 2 days in a dog crate in the back of the pickup in the garage (warmest place that is dog safe...) so once they stop peeping it would be safe to mix them with the flock right???

do chickens like bran? i found some at fred myers for .75$ a pound and thought maybe it will be like oatmeal.(but cheaper than quaker oatmeal) i have never eaten this stuff before... honestly it looks like pencil shavings..... but do i just add hot water and stirr? i am thinking of it as a warm treat for the chickens tomorrow....

yesterday was a good day for eggs.... today it was 5 eggs out of 8... i am not counting one hen anymore because it hasnt laid in a few months....

Bran is pretty high in fiber. not much in the way of nutrients, so I wouldn't do much for them. It would be a good thing to mix with other stuff. But it shouldn't hurt them, as long as it is in addition to their feed, and not instead of it.

I wouldn't put them with the flock for a few weeks. The rule is that they should be at 100 degrees for the first week, and then drop the temp 5 degrees per week until you reach 70. This time of year I would hold off a little bit longer even. They should also be completely feathered before you put them outside. Some people have luck adding chicks, but in some cases, the others will peck and them and may kill them.... So don't be in too big of a hurry to mix them. If you could have them live side by side for a while to get used to each other, that might be an idea.

Most groups mix up punch. So, I guess anyone who wants to take home some predator repellent should bring a Mason jar. We can mix it all together and then divvy it up for all to spread throughout the land.......

I know that the chicks should be fully feathered before they are introduced to the rest of the flock. Sometimes it takes a little bit for the older hens to accept new comers. You will need to watch them so that the chicks don't get hurt.

Wheat bran is very good for the chickens. But I looked up how to cook it and I crossed this web site http://www.dlc.fi/~marian1/gourmet/i_cereal.htm I think that it would better added to oatmeal or another grain, than to use it just by its self.

I also read on some silly site called BYC that you should wait until they stop chirping and are making big chicken sounds before adding them to the flock.
