Sure - let me go ask DH .... I had him make it last week and I need to find the recipe .... it was easy and goood!

Did you know you are at 2001 posts???!!! and I am about to hit 1000 and have not been a member for nearly as long

I was wondering who would hit 1000 first, Broody or me! Looks like I win, though she has gained some serious ground on me lately!

LOL.....no I had not noticed. It is easy to add up...that is for sure.

Oh man, I wasn't even paying attention to that! No wonder my laundry isn't getting done!

And all those posts since just Feb. Yikes I've been a chatty girl. It's just cause you all are so fun to talk to!

Air-layering, probably.

The original Delicious was sort of stripey, rose red and darker red and pink like a bad fingernail polish job; very much "waisted" in shape, and with five pronounced bumps on the flower end. The modern one is rounder, usually plain dark red, and with a flatter bottom. It was never a really aromatic apple (like Gravenstein or Northern Spy, say) but it had a great snappy but tender texture and an identifiable flavor.

It's never done particularly well in Western Washington, though; it's one of the apples that was pulled out of my orchard in the twenties and replaced with Thompkins King.

King is my absolute favorite! Just planted one in our orchard last year.

I've got six (I think, haven't counted lately) 90 year old ones. The darned^ squirrels and starlings have built nests in the limbs and they're breaking up; nobody has had time to prune them since the seventies. Most of the apples go to the cattle, which is all to the good, but with the weather this unspring I doubt we'll have many this year.

90? That's amazing! Do you think if they were prune/fertilized/sprayed whatever that they would remain productive indefinitely or do they eventually die of old age?

Easy Spinach and Bacon Quiche Recipe (Better Homes Cookbook):

1 pie crust in a 9" pie plate (we make ours crust-less)
1/2 cup chopped onion (we skip this as well as I am the only one in my family who will eat onions)
6 slices of bacon, chopped (DH uses pre-cooked)
8 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup dairy sour cream (we often will use cottage cheese instead)
1/2 cup half and half, light cream, or milk (we always use 1% milk as we are all overweight already)
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp white pepper (we only have the black stuff)
Dash ground nutmeg
3 cups lightly packed chopped fresh spinach
2/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, 3 oz (we use whatever cheese we have around, usually a mix of sharp cheddar, mexican, or gruyere)
1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese, 2 oz (again, whatever we happen to have)
Cherry tomatoes, cup up (we skip this as well because I'm the only one who will eat these)

1) line pastry shell with double thickness of foil. Bake at 450 for 8 minutes, remove foil and bake 4-5 minutes more until pastry is set and dry. remove from oven and reduce temp to 325. (if not using crust, just pre-heat oven to 325)

2) Meanwhile, in a large skillet cook onion and bacon until onion is tender and bacon is crisp. Drain on paper towels. (We skip this entire step)

3) In a bowl, stir together eggs, sour cream, half and half, salt, pepper, nutmeg. Stir in onion/bacon mixture, spinach and cheeses.

4) Pour egg mixture into the hot baked pastry shell. Bake at 325 for 45 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the edge comes out clean. If necessary, cover edge of crust with foil to prevent overbrowning. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with cherry tomatoes.

recipe as written in cookbook: 6 servings, 478 cal, 34g fat, 323 mg cholesterol, 550 mg sodium, 23 g carb. 1 g fiber, 21 g protien.

by omitting the crust, substituting the sour cream for NF cottage cheese, and the hal and half for milk, you will significantly reduce the amount of calories, fat, carbs, and cholesterol, and it still tastes really good. Wedivide it into 4 servings, and before putting it in th oven, on my quarter, I will add onion slices, sliced mushrooms, tomato, bell pepper, or whatever we happen to have on hand.

But for guests, I would probably keep the pie crust.

Good Luck!

and I bet my laundry pile beats your laundry pile! We have a laundry room, and the counter top is is covered with leaning piles of folded laundry, the floor is covered with clean unfolded laundry (darn cat peed on the bed!) and the hallway outside the room has 2 overflowing hampers and a big pile on the floor! (last week I had the kids get all their old clothes out of their rooms so I can wash and donate the stuff that is too small - still haven't gotten around to washing it all!)

Congratulations on the awesome news!!!!

Quail babies are hatching! At least one has! Was surprised to look and see a little guy climbing around in the bator as hatch date is mothers day and my last few batches have been late. Using every ounce of restraint to not reach in and take the little bugger out
th.gif
I guess this inspires me to clean up my room and get the brooder set up again YAY babies!

Anyway how is everyone? It's been a crazy busy week so I haven't been able to get on and see how everybody's doing
smile.png
Hope all is well! Mothers day is coming up, moms been hinting for a few chickens
clap.gif
I can't tell how serious she is...last year I brought two home and one flew over the fence and became dog food
sickbyc.gif
But just wondering anyone have some friendly funny looking egg laying ladies they want to sell? Only a set of two so they won't have to enter the flock alone
hugs.gif
Again I will have to get a few more hints from mom tomorrow to make sure she wasn't joking

(Wings will be clipped to ensure they don't become dog food)
