It's amazing how expensive things have become. Last year I ordered my mom a pretty boquet of flowers for $29.99 plus $10 to double the size and $10 for non-mother's day delivery. I thought that was very pricey, but mom lives in California where everything is very pricey, and she loved the vase it came in. This year I got an e-mail from the florist: $29.99 for the same standard boquet, no vase. Vase would be $13 more, plus $10 if I wanted to increase the size of the boquet by 50% (not by 100% like the previous year), and $15 additional for a non mother's day delivery (but still near mother's Day). I don't even know what the delivery fee is. I did not complete the order. I had Olivia draw a card, included a $20 bill and told mom to pick up some fresh flowers and some pastries at the farmers market with her friend.

Maybe you can make a quiche with your eggs - some quiche recipes are pretty easy, especially if you use a pre-made pie crust (or no crust as we do), pre-shredded cheese, pre-washed spinach and pre-cooked bacon! It still tasted pretty good. You can make in a short amount of time on Saturday and then re-heat it in the over for Mother's Day Brunch. That and some fresh strawberries, coffee, some pineapple juice or Bloody Mary's, a set of earplugs and you're set.

Sure air layer if you want but be prepared for a 20+ foot tall 'seedling'

All fruit trees are placed on rootstalks that are dwarfing and are resistant to diseases or are better for certain environments. You probably have an old Wenatchee sport variety.
Red D. are much redder now because of consumer demand assume red=ripe=sweet. which is why you will see red galas, red fugi's and redder honeychrisp coming to your store shelves. There are new cultivars made every year. I am not really convinced on the taste of Sweet Tango. but I see great things from WSU's WA2 apple and the WA5. it is not trademarked. i have been trying to work on the paper work to acquire WA2 or WA5 (i like 2 more) the way WSU set up their breeding program i could buy this tree and call it "Miller's Crunch" and sell at the fruitstand as such because it lacks a proper name and there is no regulation to what it is called. Where "Honeychrisp" is trademarked in name and genetics.

You would be better off at ordering a new tree at a nursery that has Certified Disease free and will be optimal to your soil and environment. Also because of the nature of Red D. you can take a cutting of that tree but it could revert back to its original "form" this has happened to many Red D. cultivars and is another reason why the "traditional" variety is lost because that was a Chimera or consider it a DNA mutant like a cancer on your body... but this kind is desired and propagated.

PM me if there is anything you want to know but plant cuttings are like trying to breed quality chickens. got to start with quality to get quality.

Trust me I would much rather be there doing that then what I have ahead of me...oh, the fun of it all.

Going to bed now. Not used to being up this late. Just picked up middle DS from a track meet in Cashmere. He felt he did well. I am happy for him. Shot of Nyquil chased with a glass of wine (just joking) actually having some tea. and off to bed for me.

Yes, prices are nuts. I have never made a quiche, but I like what I am hearing. SIL actually is going to a 1/2 marathon tomorrow...I could make a quiche ahead of time. Can you complete the above recipe for me? I think I will do this. I can always go find a recipe too...I am really not THAT lazy.

I was wondering who would hit 1000 first, Broody or me! Looks like I win, though she has gained some serious ground on me lately!

We're jumping on the RFF (and poss. T-Hi

) bandwagon.

We wanted to share the latest news at PPP since the move to our new house in Edmonds...

We are expecting! Baby is projected to be due 11/5/11, which currently puts us at 1 day shy of 14 weeks & into the safety zone of the second trimester. This morning was our 2nd OB appt where the Doppler let us hear the very strong heartbeat. If you go to our blog, you will see the ultrasound image from our first appt. on 4/1/11. (When we have a chance, we can try to upload to the site)

We look forward to all the homeownership & parental advice you may provide.

Thanks for all of your support! -PPP
