Hello from north of Spokane again, havent posted here in a while. I am getting rid of my white wyandotte bantams from Rev. Paul Ashbrook, they are winning lines. I have a 2 year old cock and 4 hens that are one and two years old. They have great type but are going through a molt. If someone is truely interested in them you can message me. To the right person I will sell them for a great price, maybe even free to the right home.

Just got back from Diamond Lake (NE of Spokane)... was only going to pick up the rooster... but my folks gave me about a dozen mixed chicks and their momma.

Also, those of you in my area, I guess there's been a TON of interest in BY Chicken keeping... (I heard 20 calls a day... but that may be an overstatement) and so the neighbors and I are hoping there's a giant BYC revolution! Yay!

Uh, it's good to be home again... Though the cats did NOT like being on their own for so many days... and I have some cleaning to do. And a fish died. But it was a guppy, and I had done a major water change before we left, and figured they wouldn't like it so I'm not too heartbroken.

Hi all,

Been gone a few days, madly canning anything I can stuff into a jar (will post a list on the cooking section)! I'm exhausted but extremely gratified with my work. Still have the pickles to do but they've got at LEAST another week to ferment in their brine.

Hope everyone is well. Still no eggs here, but hoping to get some in the next few weeks!!!

I'm really enjoying my 3 ladies. They are so funny to watch. Every night I go check them out after work. They all run to see me. I have the 2 buff orpingtons and one americauna. The buffs are much more social and try to get closer to me. Funny cuz neither one can.

Tonight I got 2 eggs, one like jumbo size and one real small. Both were light brown/pink. So I'm thinking the americauna isn't laying yet. I can't wait to see what color she lays.

Jenn, I did some canning for the first time this summer! Not too much, just some plums from the yard and some jam. I'm hoping to do some apple butter if our tired old apple tree will bear some non-wormy fruit.

I got my first egg yesterday! It was shell-less (just the membrane) and broken by the time I got to it. Now I'm anticipating the second egg... and after that I'll be looking for the third one....

Congrats on the 1st egg, Erica!

My mom called yesterday to find out what I was canning. She was SHOCKED to find that I hadn't canned anything that day. Heh heh. I'm taking a break and reading some books this week. I canned enough last week. OK, so that's not entirely true: my sweet pickles that have been fermenting on the counter will be ready to can on Tuesday. Then I promise... no more canning until the weekend! A friend's husband recently took a job in Ellensburg and has promsied to bring us back 2 boxes of tomatoes from Yakima: 50 lbs for $28!!

I took a peek at our little plum tree yesterday to see if the plums are ripe. Not yet. The little tree is tucked around the corned of our house where we never go, so it's pretty neglected. Last year I got 8 lbs off it and made a yummy chutney. I'll do that again this year. I gave it away for gifts last year but got back so few of the jars (as in: NONE) that I won't do that again.

You don't return my jar, you don't get any more!

I am going to the University of Idaho...so I am kind of far from my hometown of Everett hehe. I am Majoring in Pre-veterinary science, After I am done here I am going to go to WSU and hopefully become a Small animal vet, with a side emphasis on poultry (Since I probably wouldn't be able to work full time as a poultry vet.)

I miss my chickies though...I call my mom everyday to check on my kitties and chickens hehe.

I have a really good friend who is starting at Central this year!! She is really excited!

Enjoy Idaho! I've never spent much time there.

I think that's great that you are planning to be a poultry vet. My former roommate was planning to be a vet and it's so competitive, and yet so needed. You can do it!

I loved Ellensburg. I had a great time there and really came into my own in terms of who I am as an adult. I hope that your friend will enjoy it there. The uni has changed a lot since I was there.

Krista,

When you finish Pre-Vet, why don't you see what WSU has to offer. The State needs good poultry vets. You might get an internship with Dr. Dhillon at the WADDL/Avian Health Lab....

And that would be closer to home it's in Puyallup. Go all the way in the "poultry sciences"!

I have been planning on attending WSU, and the dean of the Vet school at WSU told me that there is a high demand for Poultry vets in Washington State.

Thanks for the info on the Internship!! Would I be able to intern for my undergraduate years too, or just as a vet student? This info is amazing, thanks so much!
