Terra - here's a fairly recent pic of that little banty cochin you gave me. She's pretty stand-offish so I'm working with her to give her a treat every time I pick her up. She's very feisty and is the only chicken of our wee flock that buk buk buGAWKs!

Watch this to see what I've titled the pic "I kill you!":

Skagit River Brewery. Its right next to the train tracks and the freeway in Mt. Vernon. Good beer, pretty good food.

I bet chickens would go crazy over the left over mash from the brewing process. Not sure what the nutritional value would be though.

Mmmm... love the Skagit Brewery.

My husband brews beer. He hasn't offered the spent grain to our chickens, but one morning (after a weekend of brewing) we found a pheasant in our yard snacking on it! Turned out to be a game bird someone owned, but he was quite attracted to the mash. I imagine it would be the equivalent to overcooked oatmeal... it does seem like all the nutrition would have gone out of it and into the beer.

Yep, beer has nutrition. Skip that B-complex and go have a brew!

Does anyone in Kitsap County have quail or fertile quail eggs for sale? The larger the breed the better. I thought my b-i-l would like pickled quail eggs for hunting season (the only time he's allowed to eat pickled eggs!

), and I already have a great set up in the way of an old rabbit hutch that is begging to be utilized.

Also, interested in a Bronze Turkey pair. My DH fell in love with his sis and b-i-l's trio of turkeys (1 tom, and 2 unsexed juvies) and I want to surprise him with his own.

I don't leave Kitsap County often. Very rare, in fact. I AM planning a trip to Ranier next month whenever the Aussie shop gets in their pail of Vegemite. But the trip is dependent on when customs lets the shipment in. So, the closer to Port Orchard, the better.

I will be traveling to Wenatchee, WA on October 11th to pick up my dog from his handler, along with two new Cayuga ducks.

I would be willing to meet someone there to trade, buy or sell more poultry!

I'll have Sumatras, a white faverolle cockerel, some golden laced cochin cockerels, a blue cochin and possibly a mottled houdan cockerel--along with a few then-three-week old standard salmon favs.

So if anyone is interested in meeting/buying/selling--please PM me & we'll work out the details!

Has anyone in the Seattle or Tacoma area had trouble with hawks? I think we had a red-tail in our yard this morning. The girls started freaking out and running around. I looked out and saw the lower half of a large bird perched in one of our trees. It flew off before I could get a better look, but it definitely wasn't a flicker (the other large bird I've seen in the yard).

The girls have been very skittish since then. They will venture out from time to time, but mostly they are hiding under a camellia bush. They've been stuck in their run for the last two days, and would be pretty ticked to have to go back in, but I don't think they are really enjoying their free-range time today.

We're in a heavily wooded area right by the freeway with plenty of squirrels. Why does he have to pick on my chickens????

I have unfortunatly lost a few birds to hawks. DFW wont do anything to help you either, but tell you, that you should have more secure pens. Make sure they have somewhere they can go and hide under.
Good luck

Hey everyone, my moms dog had puppies last night and they will be looking for new homes in about 6-8 weeks depending on how quickly they develop, her last litters developed really quick.
Anyway both mom and dad are blue heelers, and are so cute!
Blue heeler pups are born white and as they get older they get more of there color in.
If anyone is interested in a new pup addition to there family PM me.
Pups will be ready in time for Christmas!!

I dont know about in Hazel Dell, but over here off Fourthplain and 117th, St. Francis Vet Hospital, over by the post office by Taco Bell, will treat chickens.

I think it's $65 an exam? But you would have to call and ask for sure.
