Send the nice weather a little SE; it's been monsooning here all day! Was at ACE hardware at about 3pm, and the sun broke out for a few seconds. I was at the checkstand and the checker got on the intercom and told everyone to look outside as there was a bit of sunshine and who knows when we will see the sun again! A bunch of people DID come to the front of the store, and everyone was complaining about how miserable the weather has been, hardly a warm day since the summer of 09. People were saying they needed to hurry home before the rain started again so they could get some work done in their yards. Well it didn't last. As I was walking the 70 feet from the door to my car with a 50 pound bag of chicken feed, the wind started howling again, the sky turned black and it was pouring by the time I got to my car!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO!
But made me laugh and remember how my kids got a box of 64 crayola crayons, then fought over the box.
So I told them to share, and so they divide up with each getting half and put them in every pocket.
Well I never check their pockets when I put the clothes in the washer or dryer.............You should have seen the pretty colors on all the laundry & smeared all over the inside of the dryer.
I had to crawl in & scrape it off the inside......lucky it didn't ignite !!

I have seen some pretty interesting things some out of our drier, that's why I always wash all my stuff separately! DD is trying to pick the frozen Silly Putty off now and having a miserable time of it.

So... how do your chickens feel about over-ripe bananas? Any untoward results for spillting one short banana between two chickens?

I really don't want to eat this banana...can I hide it in the chickens?

My hens LOVE banana! It was so funny watching them the first time with one. At first the ignored it so I covered it with scratch and tossed it to the back of the run for the gals at the bottom of the pecking order. They were gingerly pecking at the scratch when my big NH, queen of the coop came over and took a little bite. She then stood straight up with a quizzical look on he face, started to walk away, went about 5 steps when she suddenly turned, bolted back to the banana, shoved her ENTIRE HEAD into the banana, and just scarfed the thing down! She came up for air a couple times with a little banana hat - a chunk of banana stuck to her head! All the other hens ran over too and joined in.

French marans have feathered legs. English marans do not. There is no American standard yet.

Well, after sitting thrrough the meeting on the Marans at Stevenson, the day after they were accepted by the APA, I was told by the guy (who seemed to know) that APA was accepting the French standard as the APA standard, and that they could be shown as of that weekend, so I have to assume they have a US standard if they are being judged by it????

And to the person who thought I was talking about a chicken "show" - no, I was talking about a poultry auction. Poultry shows are VERY low key compared to dog shows!

The Oakville auction closed down for reasons that are being kept pretty close to the chest I gather. Two new auctions have started up, in direct competition with each other. Both in Chehalis. One is at the Yardbirds (North end of building) and starts at 10 AM on Saturdays, and the other is up on COal Creek Rd, and starts at 11 AM on Sat. The Oakville guy suggested we support the Coal Creek auction, which is what I have been doing, but after today's performance, I'll be sitting down at the Yard Birds one. Gotta tell you, there's some great people watching to be done there... and people are selling goats and pigs, etc right out of their cars. It's wild. They also sell a lot of pens and things. I sold two old live traps today.
