Thanks this is my first one and I got the eggs from TX!! so not sure what I'm looking at when I candle, so it will be interesting and I will do an eggtopsy on the ones that don't hatch.

My biggest tip is to look at the size of the air sac in every egg. Sometimes the egg is just so darn full, that it is hard to actually see the chick moving in there, so I go by the size of the air sac, especially at lockdown. The more you look at, the more you will know if it is the correct size for lockdown. In earlier candling's it's easier to see a blood ring or to tell that the chick isn't moving. It's a little harder at lockdown. Good luck!!!!

Nice new avatar CL! Gorgeous boy there! Java?

Yes that is my Java boy, he is so adorable, such a love.
He tap dances & coos to me every time I call to him, comes running from where ever he is.
I have heard from other Java breeders that all Java are sweet hearts.
The Buckeyes have that reputation too, even the chicks come to see me when I walk by the fence, super friendly 'people' chickens, whether you have a treat or not.
No more mean Cock birds here, ever!

Hello all.

Really hoping some of you can help me out and spread the word. I have approval to do my Poultry Swap in the park in Spirit Lake, ID on June 25. I have posted to the swaps thread, but haven't gotten any responses. I am including all of the eastern washington, northern idaho peeps in this. Or anyone else who wants to come over for the day. Can you all let people know who have animals they might want to sell? Or maybe just come and hang out. Its going to include everyone, not just people on this forum.
Thanks

The air sac....I knew I was suppose to be watching this....I forgot. So, the air sac gets larger? What happens to it?

I am so sorry I ask so many questions...but I find this all so fascinating.

Yes it gets bigger as the liquid in the egg evaporates. This drawing helped me. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/79731_04-05umisscareincubation1.gif Hope I did that right!

Oh thank you so much i printed off and will be referring to it this morning!!!
