I just read a post on this site that said to fill a zip-lock bag with ice cubes and stick it under the hen. I think I may try it on my BO - her skin looks really dehydrated! I throw her off the nest 3 times a day and she quickly drinks and takes a bite of food then back on the nest. My EE broody who has been broody for much longer is much better and has not lost any weight.
I told you about the hen I had that was broody despite all we did, until she died.
She would NOT get off the nest, and caged, and swung, and dunked in ice water, and ice under the nest just ticked off all the other hens in the coop.......
I thought of that this evening, and I don't want her to die, so I put food and water in her nest box tonight. She won't drink from the bottle like the other broody will. It is the other BO that seems a bit weak now, she came off the nest 2 weeks ago and was the same way. Her tail is up today and she ate cottage cheese and wheat bread, and was back to exploring the yard, just a bit slower than everyone else. She's not interested in chicken feed, maybe she's poisoned from the Daphne. I treated all the 6-9 month old hens with Eprinex today in case it is worms or mites.
